How to use the PTD rifle

I've been a long time user of this rifle, but I've rarely been able to actually kill anything with it. I just simply don't understand how to use it. Sometimes I'm lucky and I hit properly and correct and get a tank in 1 hit. But other times, I never manage to destroy it before it's gone.

I've looked up on the tank sheets and I know where the engine, ammo storage and where the soldiers are, but everytime I try to hit at any of these areas, it looks like my round was deflected. No matter how many time I shoot. Even when it's coming directly against me, I'm unable to penetrate the armor and get a hit at the engine and I sometimes use 8 or more rounds before giving up.

What am I doing wrong?!

you need to shoot in the sides with no angle. So imagine "-" is you and "!" is the tank:

-!

Shooting like this means you shoot at the armour where its thinnest because at an angle theres a wider cross section
It also doesn't work well on Panthers, Tigers and IS2's..not sure about the others

Have a look at this video, and theres posts already made showing how to use it like this one:

The video looks like a custom map designed for anti-tank rifle practice, specifically for practicing the kill spots...Does anyone know if this map is up for download anywhere?

The PTRD also is affected by range, I believe (as are all tank weapons -- we just haven't fought at ranges where it matters much on official maps).

So, going back to the whole -! example, if you're shooting at point blank range:

-!

...you'll expect a clean kill if you hit the ammo store.

On the other hand if you shoot at longer range:

- !

...you may just get a deflection.

This same concept applies to the T-60's 20mm round. Past a certain range, it loses a lot of its power. Like I said, all of this will be applicable to tanks at longer ranges, but most of our maps don't model true long range tank combat yet. Even BDJ and Orel aren't THAT long as far as range goes. Wait 'til we start seeing +3000m ranges on tank maps and you'll start to see real differences between, say, the Russian 76mm guns and the German long 75s.

Kuzernki a good map to learn how to use a PTRD, the stug can only be hit on the side, and either takes 6 shots or one. You get yourself into position and it may take time, eventually you get there and lay in the firepower in to the stug.

Also with only one stug you only have to worry about infantry spotting you more so then the stug.

Its normal on any tank map to have the anti-tank guys on the top of the score board LOL.....

Those fausts are very deadly... but its the PTRD that you can use as a secondary sniper rifle.. this gun has VERY LITTLE bullet drop.. :D

I wasn't referring to german anti-tankers, of course fausters can dominate, arad/ogledow anybody, ouch :D . There's a big difference in late to early war effectiveness of the PTD. Simply put, the PTD can dominate early war compared to the late war pea shooter effect.

I don't see why the PTRS variant isn't incorporated on maps with heavier, late-war German tanks. Just sorta makes sense to me, unless you wanted to give the ruskie's US made bazookas, because they made use of those later in the war as well.

Not too sure about the russians getting the zook. Probably too much on the rare side to warrant the inclusion. What I would like to see for the russians, only for late war maps, is the inclusion of the RPG-3. Much like the german hand thrown panzerwurfmine, except without the fins. Heck it would be pretty kool to get molotov cocktails for the russians to use. They certainly used them often, although not all that effective.
