Steam speeds for RO downloading/updating

Did anyone get their full download speed while they were downloading or updating RO?

I'm asking because it took about 40 minutes for me to download the patch on a 2MB connection And someone on IRC complaining of Steam speed.

Now some might say that the local server is overloaded or something, but when Steam overall is using less than 1/4 of it's total bandwidth, I say sort out your servers Steam (ref. http://steampowered.com/status/status.html).

I know it's not Tripwires fault, and it's good they had this chance at online distribution, but if it's a Steam thing then maybe Tripwire can complain about it and let people download/update RO quicker.

I'm sitting on ~90kb/s on a 17mb/s connection - with a server on 20% load. Very frustrating when the game is 2GB.

I really hope the RO game developers moan to steam, this needs to be fixed.

Yes the Steam download system sucks. According to the stats page they have like 70% bandwith left, yet I can still download at only 100kb/s when my connection could easily handle over 200kb/s. It makes no sense.

I hovered around 200 most of the time, but I am capable of getting well over 300.

RO updates at light speeds compared to the most played Valve games in Steam. Updating CS: Source took me 2 days, partially because I had to pause the update so I could do some gaming, and also because the Steam servers are, and will remain crappy and slow.

Im also on 2mb cable, and more often than not, my RO downloads crawl along at a death defying speed of around.. 14.5 Kbs

Gee, im really getting my 200 Kbs worth eh?

I usually get 140 or a bit quicker, and I'm able to get 240 max. Not great.. but enough to keep me content.

I'm on 2Mb cable. The original download and the update acted in the same strange way. They downloaded at 200 - 300 bps until they got up around 90% complete. Then they stopped. Not slowed down. Stopped. I got them going again by trying to start the game. That woke up the downloads enough to finish. I had to do that several times with the original download but just once with the update.

I'm on 10mb cable, I've found in the past Half-Life games update at 450-650k/sec.

RO-O about 20-120k/sec

Rather frustrating.

IMO Tripwire should have it's own special content server. ^^

Close steam and delete clientregistry.blob from its folder if your download is slow.

you might be predownloading other steam games wihout realizing? it took me 10 minutes to download the patch
