Red Tails, George Lucas's next movie.

General rant here,

Something I can never understand is why they always need to shoehorn in a love story or an overcoming adversity situation in war movies.
Instead of making a really powerful movie about war or discrimination, they combine them to appeal to a wider audience, but end up with an equally bad representation of both parts, and just a plain ****ty movie.

Focus on one, do it right, and make a real good movie.

Butttt, we'll have the jackassery combat stuff as previously mentioned, cheesy lines, and a feel good ending when they win the begrudging respect of their commanders and bomber crews.

Well it is a movie, so you know they will have some good ol' cliches. From the footage shown in the preview, there are sure to be many pep talks to raise the morale of the men who are discriminated. However, I just want to see it for the action since I'm well aware of the 332nd's contribution to the war.

The CG looks pretty darn good and I'll be happy as long as 109's aren't getting shot down by shotguns and crap ala Pearl Harbor

Nobody has a fit about how over the top Indiana Jones was. It's pretty obvious this movie's goal is to be an overdone, slightly historical lightshow. If you can't enjoy it for what it is, then sure it probably looks bad.
Well if you're referring to the most recent Indiana Jones, and you're trying to say that no one had a problem with that movie, then I think you're living under a rock lol ...

By watching the trailer it's already given us the entire plot.

Really hate this about hollywood... why spoil everything... why make some trailers 2 minutes long? Just make up something that gets attention and leave the movie for the movie!!!

I would have written my own thoughts, but since they are pretty much the same as everyone else, I thought I would just copy and paste instead.

I am not even gonna quote everything:p
Just curious why hollywood can't just make a war movie, it is always smeared by bad drama or like this, the "we have to continue forever being sorry for everything we did back than" crap.

Not that I disagree with the rascism or anything, I just want a pure war movie for once:eek:

Well I hope the trailer didn't give away the entire plot! *spoiler alert* The Germans lose the war.

For many of us I am sure a movie just about war in general, filled with battle scenes would be epic...however, there has to be some substance for your average Joe Shmoe so they don't get bored/feel the movie was pointless.

So it is basically the CGI overkill ala' that of Micheal Bay meets the patrionism of The Patriot?

Frankly, i can't see this turn out good at all.

I usually never mind CGI, but this one looked real bad. It's too obvious and too badly covered.

I also have never liked Lucas as a Directer of anything. And all the American-gung-ho attitude kills the immersion.

I feel like quitting watching American War Movies at all from here on, it only gets worse by every year.

A good movie about the Tuskagee Airmen? That i could get behind, thouse guys rocked.

A WWII Air-combat movie that relies heavilly on CGI? Eh, that i will have to get behind, because there just aren't enough servicable warbirds left like there where in the 1960's.

So yes, this could be a good movie, but only if they steer clear of the same kind of traps that spoiled Pearl Harbour, the over the top cheese, the thick jingoism, the wanton rape and murder of the laws of physics, and some stupid sideplot that nobody cares about, but which takes up more of the movie than the damned war does!

The trailer raises some of thouse red flags.. but is that just trailor fodder? Or is it what most of the movie consists of? I hope for the first and fear for the latter.

Most good films tend to be about more than just things exploding.

Yup, but there are good ways of adding more (Memphis Belle), and there are bad ways of doing it (Pearl Harbour).

Which is this one? Time will tell i guess..

Well there is 1 female lead, but as to how much she is in the movie, only time well tell.

The director isn't George Lucas though, The guy who directed True Blood, The Wire, Treme, and some other shows is doing it for his movie. George Lucas wanted some shots remade however and to add more effects (go figure ;D)

I don't think it's going to be as jingoistic as other movies. I mean they do make it look like the Tuskegee Airmen save the day in the trailer...but you have to see the context of the scenes in the movie. Who knows, maybe their team huddle was after they were switched from ground attack to bomber escort and were pumping themselves up on their first important mission? And IL&M is doing the CG for the movie, they spent about $30mil on the effects. I honestly think the CG looks pretty damn good. I just hope the planes don't go mach 3 and turn on a dime ;P

2:14 min = impossible maneuver

I have a bad feeling this will be another Hollywood movie where every Allied fighter plane shoots down 12 German fighters before getting hit itself, instead of showing how it really was, where the odds were very even.

Looks an impossible manoeuvre in my opinion as well..

.. but also if you look at his target, it appears to be a BF109 but after he hits it, the plane magically becomes an Me262 - it could just be the way the trailer is cut though.

Whether this recreation is exactly how that went down who knows...but when I saw the first trailer and saw that scene, I immediately thought of this. Maybe the 3d artists saw this episode and decided to recreate it?

The manouver is real enough, saved my tail in IL-2 a few times (though i've never had the good luck to shoot down a plane doing it, i have evaded a persuer like this a couple times), but the flip is just happening too fast, both in the CGI clip you found, and in the movie trailer, forward momentum can't be altered that rapidly, it does take a little longer than this for the plane to stall and flip over.
