Do you play Killing Floor on lower graphics?

I don't think this should be in tactics, it seems more like general discussion to me.

Do any of you ever play Killing Floor on low graphics? I play it on the second lowest graphics thing because for some reason I play much better without all the good graphics and distractions (and I have an overclocked beast computer so this isn't really about framerate.)

Having it on the highest graphics looks pretty but then at the same time everything feels more faster and my aim feels off for some reason.

Does anyone else feel this?

i don't feel this, but aside from the placebo effect explanation, it's also possible that your're unable to process the complexity of the scene and so it throws you off. therefore you require a more simplistic environment without distractions, as you put it.

I've have everything maxed on 1920x1080. If your computer is somewhat modern (hell, mine is three years old) this isn't too hard to do while getting smooth fps.

I'm not much of a graphics fan except for the first hour or two of playing. After that the excitement of pretty visuals fades away to me. Therefore, I turn down the graphics on most multiplayer games since it's easier to identify character models and not get distracted by details in the map. However, I never really had an issue with this in Killing Floor so I just keep everything maxed out. The second this becomes a problem I crank them down.

If by low graphics you mean on a Geforce 2 Ultra 64mb video card (11 years old) then yes, I can play the game just as well and have just as much fun as I do when I play on my main gaming pc with its GTX 480 powerhouse video card.

Only one problem with the Geforce 2.... It's a Dx7 card and lacks pixel/vertex shaders.... so pretty much all of the weapons, zeds, character models, and anything else that has a shader effect applied to it is solid white. The game still runs quite excellently though at 1024x768x16 and normal settings.

I'm surprised it runs at all on a netbook. What kind of frame rate does it perform at?
I put netbook in parentheses because it's only classified as a netbook because it has an 11-inch screen. It's an Alienware M11x Rev1 (The one using the ULV Core2Duo; got it for an awesome $500). Anyway, 720p, medium settings, no AA, something on the order or 50+ fps depending on what's going on. Fire and smoke kills it for sure.

I did at one time have an Asus 1215n (Dual-core atom D525, nVidia ION2 graphics) and I could generally keep 40+ at medium-low settings at 1366x768.

A lot of pro FPS players play with minimal detail simply because it makes identifying targets easier when you're looking at less complex scenery. In a way, I do the same thing by turning off any effect that attempts to simulate the behaviour of the human eye (HDR, motion blur, etc.) because they're ugly and annoying to me. But I have also found that it is easier to find targets and aim quickly without those screen effects.

I play on two different computers, my Laptop and my brother's Desktop.

Here's the specs, My Rig and my brother's

The Video Card, RAM and Processor are the main factors here, when playing on my Laptop, I'm on the Low settings, right above Lowest, get some lag, sometimes EPIC lag, but not enough to sour my mood to play, although I'm in dire need of a new laptop. Here's a vid and screen as ref, look at the FPS, the dimensions I can tape at without having massive lag, and ofc, the quality.

When on my Brother's we just game and game and frag and own.
(Yesh, that's me, ignore my stupid voice, Xfire fail, I don't know how to do the loophole that someone mentioned on these forums...)

Settings on that are on I believe...Highest. I'll need to check again but it runs so smoothly, especially with the video card on the Desktop.

Don't forget that maps also come into the factor here, because this one is on the desktop but notice the FPS counter on the top right.

Regardless, the fun isn't lost, it could be better on both computers, (A new laptop completly for me and maybe an upgrade on the RAM and a new processor for the Desktop) could be better but I'm thankful for what I have to play with, better something than nothing. *And thankful for TWI for KF XD*

It depends on the laptop. Some of the more expensive ones (Clevo comes to mind, and some MSI models) have MXM-slot cards which can be switched out, provided heatsink and BIOS compatbility.
I've never heard of those kinds of Laptops.

My business from experience is with HP and Toshiba, Acer is 'last resort' followed by anything else. Link to this 'Clevo' and a good model? Too tired to Google. XD
yup, i play pretty low setting, usually 2nd to lowest. i love good graphics, but wont sacrifice them for performance, even if those performance issues are all in my head. (there's a viagra joke in there somewhere.)
LOL. Just pure LOL.
