Well, the word "soccer" is actually from England. Rugby and "soccer" were both originally two variations on the same sport -- rugby football and association football. The "soc" part of "assocciation" was taken, in that strange way we English have, and the word "soccer" came into slang.
However, since "soccer" is far more popular over here than rugby, people just call it football. The word "soccer" has become redundant and actually pretty archaic.
Also, what's the best place in the world to watch the World Cup on TV?

In London, you can watch any team in the world cup with people from that country.

that new ball will trouble the keepers with the amount of movement it will generate. but great for the game

That Poland game made me want to cry. So long as Brazil loses horribly I will be happy this year. Though what will make me even happier is if England or the United States wins. Gotta root for my ManU lads on England!
