what is the real point of tracer bullets? is it like to aim with the windage or whatever or what? i have alwas wondered
i always thinks in any of the darker maps it gives away the MG position

dont u watch tv i mean when the war in iraq started u should have seen some atleat

every 2 or 3 rounds u stick in a tracer round

if i am correct it also helps at night when it is hard to aim through iron sights so the tracer rounds are wat u use to determine where u are shooting

and i think u might be able to turn that video in for the capture of osama binladen LOL

yes, but in daytime, the tracers are not as well seen as they are in RO....that still remains an issue.

someone needs to post that helicopter MG video again. Its broad daylight there and you can clearly see the tracers on the way down and as they richocet.

I like the tracers in DoD 1.3, although a little brighter. Even on a dated engine it still looks good.

I always wondered...do tracers really look like that in real life? They seem more like lasers to me than illuminated bullets.

They are somewhat "smaller" irl than in ro. But RO is by far the most realistic depiction i have seen. The bouncing feels very atmospheric!

The best tracers i have yet to see in any video game come from Americas Army. I hope to see something like this in future RO releases, considering its the same game engine.

the MG is a support weapon after all.

Let me explain, typcially, the American infantry tactic was for rifleman to be the head of the assault, supported by the machine gunner.

This is the common conception of a role of the machine gunner, however, German forces used the machine gunner as the main force of their attack, This machine gunner was supported by the riflemen.

If you remember Call of Duty 1, every weapon used tracers, and every bullet was a tracer bullet......that totally sucked.

Tracers are also used to penetrate it's target. As specially on small vehicles.
I've heard stories of british para's at Arnhem bridge where they used to shoot on german light vehicles with tracers, eventually the vehicle ends up burning.

Hmm iv never heard of that but I do know that allied airmen would sometimes use them to set small buildings on fire

I think they were a good idea but if there's that much controversy around them just take them out, no other game has them anyway

Keep in mind that tracers in game are all client side, so the actual bullet trajectory may be different from that of the tracers.

Lasers don't look like - - - - - - this. A laser is a solid beam from start 'till end.
And another thing is that a tracer can ignite something highly flamable like fuel or ammunitions but I wouldn't set a building on fire because of it's short burn time.

The tracers are the best I've seen in a video game, but they are a bit overdone for some parts, the brightness and the bouncing effect and the actual projectile.
