The Jagdpanther wasnt really used on the Ost front was it?

Virtually all of the best German armor was developed for combat on the Eastern Front. Usually in response to something the Russians fielded, such as the Panther to the T-34. Late in the war the Germans started fielding a lot of designs such as the Hetzer, Jagdpanzer IV, Jagdpanther and Jagdtiger. The were easier to design, and cheaper and faster to build due to the turretless design. With the supplies of good steel, ball bearings, and other items crucial to turreted tanks becoming more scarce, turretless designs made sense from a logistical standpoint.

Well the Jagdpanther is know to have no problems to destroy allied Tanks except the IS-2, which did have a Chance to survive some shots, which gives the impression that it was used on the eastern front, though only under 400 Jagdpanther were build.

Here some nice pics i found on the web :)

Lots and lots of wwii hardware is used all over the third world. Would be nice if we could buld civilian stuff with the same quality. :/

But then our economy would collapse. If everything would be build to last, then everyone would only buy one single item. Just look at cars: In the 70's and 80's they started to incorporate parts that wear of rapidly and would have to be replaced, because hte cars built before were so duable that the manufactueres made little money, as people did not need spare parts or even new cars. Nowadays, they even go as far that minor replacements, like the lamps, can't be done at home anymore :/

Sory for OT ;) Jagdpanther would be fun :D

Somewhere in one of my books (either in storage or back in Texas, darnit) there's a picture of a Jagdpanther captured by the Americans. The photo shows a US tank destroyer crew and their unit commanders examining the damage done to the Jagdpanther by one of their M-10 TD's. There's a beautiful grouping of shots, IIRC 5 shots in about an 18 inch circle, on the lower glacis plate, all from an M-10's 3" (76mm) gun. No penetrations. One of the tracks was cracked, and I think the gun was disabled, but there were no penetrations of the armor at all.

One TOUGH beast.

Then again, the Germans had problems with some Russian heavies. There was that one KV-II that had a German regiment stalled until they were able to sneak two 88mm FlaK-18's on it's flank under 500 meters away. Hmmm...when do we get one of THESE in the game...

The 88mm L71 cannon the Jadgpanther is mounted with can pierce the thickest armor of the IS2 well passed 2000 meters. Thats way beyound the ranges we'll be seeing in Ostfront.

That was very early in the war when the Germans had the lightly armored and gunned Panzer II, III and IV.
