Texturing Problems

This is my first time posting here so sorry if this topic has already been brought up... but i'm new to the making of maps and all that so i started to read this tutorial http://www.redorchestragame.com/downloads/manuals/RedOrchestraSDKManual.pdf it was working pretty good until it came to texturing. in the tutorial it says

Now lets find a nice texture to use. Click on the browser toolbar (the open folder icon). You should now be presented with a browser dialog that shows the Red Orchestra: Ostfront '42-45 Texture Packages. Select and open the Architecture_T package (Architecture_T.utx file).
The Texture Browser should now display a series of nice brick and concrete textures. Take the time to scroll through them and take a look. Any texture will do for our purpose, but lets select the m_brickwork 1 texture. Simply click on the texture and close the texture browser.
Now we can go and re-subtract that brush again. Go ahead and do that. You should see the same cube space appear in the rendered view pain, but now it should be painted with the new texture we just selected.


Well I did all that and in stead of looking all nice the cube just turned white. I have tried several other textures, uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting my computer... i think i have tried almost everything. Please help me.
