But on more serious note human wave is something that has almost romantic following even when in some very rare occasions it might've been done during the conflict, most of them leaning towards the early stages.

Nyet! The NKVD GB preferred to use 9mm in P38's in comparison to the TT33 or Nagant Pistols as they jammed less when used "extensivly".

During the purges, the Nagant Revolver in 7.62x38R was the weapon of choice.

I guess they got it off dead Germans. Maybe you can model that during training/battles, using P38's instead of traditional Russian pistols.
