PAX West 2016 Panel Recap

Last week Tripwire and Antimatter devs were at PAX West and delivered a presentation about Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. The developers go into detail about weapons, helicopters, commander abilities as well as answering questions from the internet and from the live audience. We also show off new in game footage, as well as Sturt Jeffery flying (and crashing) the helicopters live!

Check out the archived PAX West stream on Twitch!

PAX Slides & Videos

We have also provided the slides and videos from the presentation.

PC Gamer Preview & Helicopter Reveal Trailer

Before PAX, Tyler from PC Gamer wrote about his experiences playing Rising Storm 2: Vietnam in a multiplayer session.

“Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, the follow up to Rising Storm and the Red Orchestra series of realism-focused multiplayer FPSes, is mostly the tension part of the war movie. It’s a lot of slow, creeping movement, a lot of thinking about my positioning and the enemy’s positioning, and then a burst of action—automatic rifles and explosions and the part where a bunch of extras die. (You're the extra.)”

Someone mentioned that in order to motivate a transport pilot to successfully crash land and not just "give up" by inflicting all "souls on board" TK penalty if the pilot failed. Was that a true statement?

If so, it's a common practice for server operators to set a friendly fire kick/session ban threshold to counter any griefers/trolls that pop up when an admin is unavailable, would this just be a server op. problem?

We are going to rely more on the updated vote kicking system, and spawn time penalties to separate out punishment for TKs and people who are griefing.

Griefers will more likely get kicked by votes, rather than automatic kicks. I believe the automatic kicking system in RO2 is harmful to new players and is very intrusive and disruptive when applied to players who have TK'd accidentally. Staying in the spawn queue for any extra ~60 seconds would be preferred by most people than being suddenly, and abruptly booted from the server and unable to rejoin until the server changes levels.

I would imagine so, the ARVN used M1 Garands, Carbines, and BARs before 1968, then they were re-equipped with M16s and M60s.
Of course, tripwire/antimatter didn't specifically confirm what years the game is set during, so it's possible that the ARVN won't have those weapons.

Yay, moar WW2 weapons!
Don't get too excited. The devs didn't specify if the ARVN weaponry will be pre 1968 or post 1968.

That's a fair point. I'd love for the devs to make use of time-differentiated weaponry, much like the Guadalcanal map. It'd be interesting to see the ARVN with WW2 era weapons go up against the VC with SKS and MAT49s.
