"Enemy over there!" - any use?

Good evening,

I was wondering if spotting an enemy (standard Z button) is of any use. For instance, I noticed that the mark stays only for like 2 seconds. Also I would like to know if other team members can even see it. I tried it several times when I heard players of my team use this function and brought up the HUD immediately to see if there were any marks but couldn't find one.

Also the target identification seems to be buggy too. I literally stood like 10 meters in front of a tank and my soldier yelled out the standard Ivan/Fritz spotted sentence. Sometimes the identification does actually work but thats more a random occasion.

I rsometimes use it, as I don't use a mic ingame only on TS. So if I want to alert team members who are not on TS I use the spotting system.

If it works, it is useful for tank spotting. As an AT-guy it is nice to know where to head for and as a normal infantry it is nice to kow where not to go. Then again, I'm not sure if it works nowadays, or then no one uses it.

Since my standard keyboard setup uses z for other purposes I have redelegated this function to another key. I have long since forgotten which, though, and I have never used this function. Nice to see I didn't miss out on much.

'cause I don't have a microphone, I use this button to announce that enemies area nearby, alerting freindlies, and aiming in the direction I saw them to further help out. It actually works decently like this. ^^

The markers do apear on the map and tactical view, just I've no idea if anyone else uses it so I can't say if I see their markers.

I sometimes press it and then think "Why did I bother?". I'm thinking about making Z alt-fire mode, since its easier to reach than 6.

wouldnt it be kind of better if your character would automatically spot targets upon placing your sights on them for a few seconds?

That way you dont have to click a button (though you still can) and it cant be exploited by spamming because you have to keep them in your sights for a few seconds.
