I use to play assault alot just to get the drum mag, and the few times I went bolt I got more kills than I have with assault

You could try the shadersondemand = true tweak. It worked for me. If that doesn't work for you, battlefield commissions or the role opening up by people leaving or switching will pretty much be the only way for you. I wish there were a more equitable way to handle role selection such as a lottery where you have a chance at first and second preference and get rifleman if you don't get picked.

I really dont like the mkb, not for the historical/realism issues but they way in which it kicks like a mule. Favourite is the ppsh, the insane rate of fire is just right for those panicky close quarter moments when the German is standing 2 fett away from you and you couldnt hit him if your life depended on it
