Carpathian Crosses

Well, you've seen the tanks. Now, just to show you that there will be something in Carpathian Crosses for tankers and infantry fans alike - we proudly present the Russian M-1939 mortar. Isn't she beautiful?

This was produced in large numbers and was standard kit in Russian infantry units up until 1943. It was also used, when captured, by German and Finnish forces and was later exported to China and Vietnam.

The mortar requires a crew of 2 experienced troops to operate effectively, throwing a 50mm HE round up to 800 metres. The skill comes in one crewman setting the angle (45 or 75 degrees) and judging the correct settings of the mechanism at the base, adjusting the power of the shell's launch, whilst his mate carries out range-finding and spotting duties.

In the hands of two skilled crewmen working together this mortar is a deadly addition to the RO arsenal.

And, as if that weren't enough, we bring you a few sneak peek of new weapon sounds and Romanian voice commands. We think the voice commands are great step in bringing Romania's role in the Ostfront to life. Many thanks to Vlad for the voice-actor work.
The three sounds below are the "We're burning!" tank alert, the artillery confirmation message and the 50mm mortar launch sound. No prizes for guessing which is which.

Check them out HERE!

Also, we are always looking for talented guys to help us out, if you feel you have what it takes (beside skill, time and dedication is the most important), contact us. You can visit our forums and contact us there. Make sure to check our website over at:

She is! Thank you so much, i will really love using it!
Question: how will it work. I mean, there will be 2 people. One with binocs, right? He will be a spotter. Let's say, he spots an enemy infantry. What next?

For the moment lets keep it this way: The second guy will make it easier to hit targets (not in a magical "if-guy-is-close-increase-accuracy" way though).
Aiming with the mortar will take some experience. Teamwork will speed up that process and the success while learning. And like every good team, staying together will of course result in shared points (similar to driver/gunner in a tank).

Like said on the Red Orchestra frontpage, Carpathian Crosses is opening a contest for all of you Red Orchestra players out there: our playermodels will require different faces and we want yours! We have 15 slots to give out to the Red Orchestra community, therefore you are all invited to be made into a character for Carpathian Crosses, the mod for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.

However, this does take a little time and effort from your side. What do you have to do to win your face in the game? Well, simply take pictures of yourself, while following these rules:
  • The photographs need to be of the highest resolution possible, and preferably taken in overcast lighting conditions. This is needed to avoid shadows and highlights on your face. Just make sure it is not too extreme but the light is equally distributed across your face.
  • Make sure to zoom in on just the neck and head.
  • Take pictures of the front, side, rear, and top of your head.
  • We will need you to have your eyes shut. And a picture of your eye up close.
You can send your pictures, along with your Red Orchestra forum username (if you have one) to: [email protected]. We will personally judge all the entries - and the judges decisions are final. The winners will be based on a few criteria, which include:
  • Diversity - We do not want 15 people with black hair and a beard winning.
  • Picture Quality - No JPG distorted low resolution pictures.
So pick up your camera, and start taking pictures
