I can't say I've been following this game because I haven't but you just summerized my general attitude towards 99% of all FPS PC games nowadays. The problem is PC gaming is now huge business and huge business is NOTORIOUS for milking something to it's absolute final gasp of life before being forced (by public demand/ lack of sales) to change and innovate. I'm sorry to say but I rarely see innovation in todays FPS. All the groundwork was laid in the early nineties and now it's just an excercise in formula execution with the main change being upgraded graphics/physics every release. I'm not saying Bioshock is a bad game (I don't know I haven't tried it). But I'm just not enthusiastic about FPS nowadays anymore. The last FPS I played that actually innovated and had my saying "ok this is something special" was Red Orchestra.......that's it.Anyway...
Having finished BioShock, I'm not as happy with it. The atmosphere, story, game mechanics, etc aren't, in my opinion, on par with System Shock 2. I still had a great time with it and it does generally put the rounds in the target area, but I'm left wanting a redone System Shock even more than before.
I mean I bet Bioshock is likely a hell of alot of fun and very entertaining and awesome etc etc but I want to play something that is genre defining and or takes that genre to the next level on ALL levels and graphics & physics aren't enough for me. Many FPS nowadays are very fun "romps" no doubt I agree but I want more than just a romp. But that's just me which is the minority, so....I'll keep searching and hoping for change and maverick developers out there who are true oldschool and makes games for the game 1st and the money a distant 2nd.
