A fix for the gun sounds

Hey guys (tdlr at the bottom of the post in case you don't want to read about my journey to get to the great discovery)

(I'm not asking to make the sounds better with this thread, read before you post)

I have been one of those people (like others) who have talked about not liking the sounds and wish they sounded better and were louder and that we want to be scared and shot at etc. etc.

Now there have been people who agree with this and people who say their sound is fine and think it has something to do with the persons sound card or headphones.

Now my friend just got a new Mobo and he talked about how everything sounds normally and he looked at the Realtek audio manager and looked at what Realtek said about his green port, that it was "front speaker out" (when you put your mouse over the green lit) and changed it to "headphone"

(He said there was an option but if your like me and can't find one just unplug your headphone plug and replug it in and the Realtek audio manager will let you choose options, select "headphone" and make sure it's not on "front speaker out" or anything else)

So because of my sound always being kind of low and weird I decided to check and do the same thing, after seeing it wasn't on headphone I changed it then noticed my sound a lot higher.

Went to try Red Orchestra 2, thought of a good map to try it on, went on Kriegszeit, was thinking of what weapons I wanted to try first so sitting at team selection screen, thunder goes ****en off and I literally jump in my chair, I go in game and hear the rain pouring heavily with the thunder literally making me jump while shooting my guns which are all very high sounding and actually jumping when I get shot at.

So I am now very happy with this result :D and spreading here so if incase anyone else had this problem because Realtek for me liked to set it as that automatically then I hope this works for you.

tdlr: Make sure your headphones are set to "headphone" and not "front speaker out" or anything else and your gun sound should be better.

Sounds awful for me with a dedicated sound card. I can't even imagine how bad they must have been if you had those settings set up wrong.

It didn't sound bad it's just that all my sound was low (especially those gun shots like everyone says they are) then I just did this and now everything is loud and my gun sounds pop.

Considering the realtek manager automatically sets it like that I still think it could be the case for a lot of people considering there was a thread where a bunch of people said their gun sounds are low and there was a bunch of people saying their gun sounds were fine and trying to figure out whats up.

So this could be it.

Sounds good to me (no pun intended), perhaps you should post this fix in the support forum (if you haven't already).

Thought it was best for General Discussion so more people see it considering I have seen it a lot.

That actually worked for this game as I just reset the inputs again. Though the Russian bolt still sounds kinda weak compared to the k98.

Awesome, glad it worked for someone.

So, where do you actually go to change these settings?

Open your realtek HD audio manager and there should be a picture of the green headphone porn that is lite up and there are 2 things you can do.

You can double click on it to get the option to check whats setting it is or if your like me who doesn't have that, just unplug your headphone jack and plug it back in and re open your audio manager and it should give you an option to select what it is, and select headphones.

Hope this helps you.

Yeah I use my onboard RealTek sound and I think I have had it set to headphones for the longest time since I usually use my headphones when on the computer, so my sound was always great from the start.

Though when I switched to other settings (speakers, etc.) I can't say I ever noticed any drastic changes, but that was a while ago.

Headphone settings is always the way to go though.

Oh, you mean to say using my 5.1 surround sound Bose 901 speaker system & KLH Sub-Woofer is wrong? :)

Im using USB headphones with a 7.1 (simulated). I still find the explosions extremely lacking. To put it into perspective, when artillery is exloding 20 meters from you, you would NOT be able to hear anything else, including your own firearm. All you would hear is a loud thump followed by ear ringing. It is surprising that the dev's refuse to put that form of sound into the game, as this has always been a game of "options", and anyone who didn't want that kind of sound, should be able to disable it.

If you are listening with headphones, you should always use the 'headphone' setting. Even with my Creative card, there is a big difference with how it sounds with the 'speakers' setting or the 'headphone' setting (with headphones of course).

Otherwise, everything sounds just fine with my Logitech Z5500 speakers using the 'speaker' setting.
