Diesel does explode, but it has to be under intense pressure. Like when they use 55 gallon drums of diesel to sink footings with those huge Pile Drivers.

They ram those huge steel columns into the ground, usually till they hit bedrock.

And crysis is trying to be "realistic" this zeros it all down. Also, if a car drives into a car it does not plow up at the impact.
