Zeds that Explode

It would be pretty fun to have a Zed, when killed would create a huge explosion. No, I'm not talking about the Bloats exploding or a Husk's fireball, I am talking about a Zed that if it gets too close to you and its life reaches 0, it will create a huge radius explosion, similar to pipebombs and damage the players with it.

This is the type of Zed that is best to be taken out early and far away, unless your team likes to explode a lot.

only problem i foresee is that it is basically a downgrade of the siren, and then crossed with a bloat, it seems unnecessary and doesn't fill any role not already covered by other specimens... but it's a nice idea.

Thanks! Though I imagine the explosions would be something that does a lot more damage to armor (like 1-2 explosions can bring armor from 100 to 0 at point blank), making you more vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy.

Interesting idea.

Not sold on braindeads idea of a ZED that 'runs towards a group of players'

People have enough trouble spotting and nailing the siren in time. Having something running towards you even if it's only crawler/gorefast speed would be a nightmare....

Sod it... add it in. I'm up for a clusterf**k.

Yeah, given that due to a faulty spawning system zeds are spawned directly on your head or in a distance of 1 meter from your back, this would be hilarious.

Anyway, an exploding ZED has been discussed before and it was received quite alright and I think it would be good, but it'd have to be a rather uncommon ZED. I beleive the exploding ZED would give a lot more tension in the waves but it will also make the game harder. We don't want to make it TOO hard, so we'd have to be careful about it.

Honestly i'm a bit for and against the idea.

1) It'de be a plus for Sharp Shooter/Some one who's handling **** at a distance because not only would the SS be able to take it out in one shot on higher difficulties, but he would be able to DETONATE THEM FROM A DISTANCE, causing harm to specimins around it. This would allow for a commando or a SS any difficulty of the game to Dispatch Trash effectivly while conserving ammo, Be rewarded for headshotting and damaging scrakes/FP's without raging them.

2) That said, spawning mechanics are a bit broken so you couldn't keep them at a distance all the time and there would be NO possible way to counter this currnelty. Maybe making melee damage safefly kill them without explosion? THat would give Zerkers something else to target after if something gets a bit too close. Might also make the clever a bit more effective as a backuip weapon for some non-zerkers.

3) It kinda takes away from the sirens territory of AOE rape. What if the death shreek of the siren was one that is louder then her normal screaming, does way more damage (or all her normal damage in a much quicker time) and damages zeds? You could use the above mele statement to have a risky counter for that.

i'm thinking something like the explody things from halo:CE, except they take more damage, imagine a big bulgy thing with a fair amount of health that explodes on death or on contact, with no damage, but spreads out a lot of small specimens... or a flesh pound :p

had a similar idea, i saw it as a zed that only spawns 1 at a time randomly throughout later waves

i had beta version of it running
he would explode with an explosion that was 10x more intense than the LAW explosion and he would only explode if killed

pretty intense

Maybe could you give it a clots grappling ability.
Would be pretty cool if it would grab you and explode with you if you can't get it off in time.

Maybe something like the Mutants from Metal Slug ?
Crawler-like creatures that could raise their blood pressure, causing them to slowly turn red and finally blow up !

We already have the Siren and she is far better since she can also destroy explosives and has the amazing advantage of being able to attack more than once.

A nice idea, but it's none too viable.

All zeds need to fill a gap?

I have a general question...does a zed have to fill a gap? Having played for a while now I do find myself looking for new zeds. Even if a new zed like this one overlaps other zeds, it is new and requires new strategies to be developed to handle them. We have recently added the Brute to one of our clan server and it is played all the time. Even without the perk advancement players seem hungry for the new zeds. In the end it could be argued that the brute overlaps with the fleshpounder but has proven a lot of fun and very popular.

Also in keeping with the game storyline, as the scientist that created these zeds experimented to perfect the mass produced zeds, there would have been "failed" models. This zeds seems like a step in the path to the siren. So maybe this version explodes.

Just my opinion.

...Alternatively, this could draw off the Zombine Soldier. It moves like a Clot, acts a bit like a Clot, does similar damage to a Clot but has more health...

...but instead of grappling you in one place, yanks out a grenade/pipe bomb/explosive-of-choice and suicide-rushes you.

How about this for an exploding ZED:

Behaviour:
* It runs quite fast
* Charges when getting close to players (Similar to Gorefasts)
* It is quite weak in health
* If it does its regular suicidal attack, it explodes instantly
* If it is killed normally (bodyshots/headshots), it will explode after a little while (giving Berserkers (and others) some chance to run away), having a "bubbling/twitching" animation until it explodes
* Can also be killed if enough damage (low amount required) is done to its explosive body parts, but this causes it to explode instantly
* Its explosives obviously deals explosive damage (giving the Demolitions perk some reason for his resistance other than against selfdamage and Patty-rocket)
* Its explosion can hurt other ZEDs, detonates other nearby explosives and deals quite a lot of damage.
* As rare as Scrakes, but appears on wave 4

Appearance:
* Can be very loud with crazy screams (hard to miss its proximity)
* Twitches a bit, a lot more so when charging
* Skinny and tall
* Its arms being the explosive parts (sorta similar to the suiciders in Dead Space?)

More ideas to that?

Exactly how I pictured it, with the shaking and the loud scream, lol although I was thinking of swapping this out, to have a gag around the mouth and make it a muffled blood curdling scream
