With the way things are currently set up, I don't see how players starting the event when it goes live CAN complete the seasonal objectives, as the Matriarch has a ridiculously low chance to spawn into the game. (Since the start of Beta period 1, i've only managed to encounter her 8 times. Had the Update gone live during that time period, the event would be over by now and I would have failed the objective)
Sure, it's doable for BETA PARTICIPANTS but i think the majority of players will have their first impressions of the update be when the event goes live.
