I'm not really bothered by most of the bugs but the design choices are just terrible. Even the stupid crap that noone wants is broken, like my MKB got a unremovable scope that makes the weapon useless. It's pretty obvious that there was a single idiot that designed the game because if a roomful of people at TW sat and talked about the design decisions there would be at least 1 person who would speak up and say "wait guys this is retarded". There is just no way the process for making this game was anything like how ROOST was made.

This game is great, lame people camping everywhere is whats ruining this game.

The only time chokepoints are an impassable cluster**** is 64 player apartments. Otherwise you need to play better or learn the maps more because it's pretty easy to flank in this game.

I rated the beta 6.

I give the full game a 4.

It's been a month and there has been little to no improvements. Also some terrible design choices seem to be there to stay (MkB, native language, recon plane).

I voted "Not so much the bugs, but certain design choices mar the gameplay. It still has potential though." because the game can still be fixed. If not by Tripwire, at least by the modders.

At first not really satisfied with the game overall although performance was all right. During the next weeks the annoyances became too apparent and the game play flaws became clear. Then there came the patches... the horror. After all these patches my game runs a lot worse, the most annoying problems are still there ( loss of sound, still messed stats ect. ). I really have nothing good to say, and therefore I hardly play the game anymore, went back to good old DH.

So I voted: Both bugs and design choices mar the gameplay.

Too bad though, bit of shame of those euros. But in the end it is my fault for mindlessly pre-ordering it without rethinking where RoHOS really is about.

Love it!

It's very immersive for a FPS. Needs to get ironed out on some bugs and glitches still, but it's very playable. In all fairness though, a person needs to invest in a headset for this game. This game is designed behind the rules of "Shoot, move, and communicate." Typing text is not good enough when you are trying to fight at the same time. So, if you want to take this game seriously and on a serious server use a head set and spot targets, relay your position, prepare an assault - so guys don't run into your grenades, ect.. Rainbow 6 vets know what I'm talking about.

I miss that tactical gameplay from RO with balanced loadouts of rifles and slowly storming the objectives with a help of the teamwork. I remember the map Kuzerniki, I loved the hard work it took to capture the village, it was very difficult to approach its fierce russian defence and it had awesome long distance rifle shooting action with support of a mg. That was truly special and an amazing experience. Now is just all turned into another fast paced fps game.

They might have just got bored of the whole RO style, especially after working so much on Killing Floor. Some design decisions are pretty bad though, and some are probably just half finished or rushed compromises. I doubt they really wanted so many Mkb's originally, and just went with putting them in Assault because of one reason or another. I hope they didn't really want straight upgrades but aim to expand on that later. There is very clearly a change in gameplay focus from Ostfront to HoS though and it seems to touch virtually every aspect of the game.

This paragraph is pure speculation BTW and I don't know if it's significant, but a bunch of people who worked on RO (including the "founder of RO mod") originally left TWI and formed a team who then worked on Insurgency mod. That kinda failed pretty badly for various reasons but I wonder if that had any impact on the future development or focus of the series. TWI might have had to release Ostfront how they did but didn't really like it, because it had to be similar to the mod, but maybe it wasn't how they really wanted to make it (reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insurgency:_Modern_Infantry_Combat , plus I remember people talking about it on Insurgency forum or IRC).

Everyone in our clan that plays RO2 seems to be pleased. I certainly am. There are little things that can be refined over time. I've even managed to solve the sound issue through hardware upgrades. The only major thing I'd like to see changed is the numbers of MKBs present on a given map. And that would be just for realism sake.
It has been our experience on our 64 man servers that the Russians can and do often prevail in spite of the presence of this weapon. So I don't see it as a game breaker. But, there should be fewer of them available on any Stalingrad map. If someone wishes to put together some late 43 maps; load 'em up with MKBs.

Native language is illogical for most because not everyone speaks Russian and German. I don't mind if they give an official option to change it later (as you can do it by moving files now) but not understanding your teammates breaks immersion for me.

I learned Russian and German in one week playing RO. You just get it. That's what you're supposed to do!

I played the hell out of that mod. Lots of fun back in the days. It suffered from bad timing as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare came out nearly at the same time.

To me, it's just another FPS, but I feel that if one thing is tweaked here, and another there, and another here, we have a game worthy of :IS2:

I still have plenty of fun with it, though.

thats the problem. its fun good game overall if i overlook the massive amount of bugs, but its not great by any stretch of the word. ;)

The bugs are minor in my case and easily put up with. The gameplay is far more arcadish than I was hoping for and a disappointment in all honesty. That'll change with mods I think.

... my server browser still doesn't work so I can only play Red Orchestra 2 with friends. This is annoying because I have my "games I play with others" and "games I play by myself" and I had put all my dice on RO2 being the merger between both those categories.

Therefore, I voted "The gameplay is great, but marred by constant bugs.".

"THE LOSS OF KEY PERSONNEL" is nothing to be considered lightly if the only thing saves RO series from being dull ordinary shooter is the gameplay design itself.

I can feel this too.

RO1 is tough and rough battle and you can actually feel it hard to control weapon kickbacks, ever deviating accuracy regardless of careful aim (which is just realistic) cracking (thumping) bullets that passes right beside you which makes you flinch with fear of death, harsh, and realistically loud in decibel level gun, explosion sound not like RO2's semi battlefield (DICE) style muzzled cracking gun/ explosion sound for little kid's precious ears to be protected from relatively realistc Decibel level gun/ explosion cracking noise.

RO1, Insurgency mod had that ruthless difficulty, game sound design choices not for precious kids but for hardcore gamers who's tired of same ol **** of FPS tide.

RO2? not so much harsh, tough and rough feel to it, due to mild, easy to control weapon game design, semi muzzled ( +lowered decibel )sound for little kids.

RO1 and insurgency mod is for hardcore gamer who want real tough ****, RO2 is pretty much for little kids with realistic theme here and there.
(just compare RO1, insurgency mod's sheer harsh, cracking, loud, high decibel level gun/ explosion sounds to semi muzzled weak a bit soft and low in decibel level gun/ explosion sound of RO2. what a shame for advertising it as RO1's successor.)

I can't really feel that harsh, tough and rough vibe from RO2 like I did with RO1, insurgency mod.

So there goes another mystery solved, possibly...

I'm not happy with it - the game felt well polished aside from a few bugs, but it's just not fun for me. When I bought it I was expecting teams working together and not lone wolfing it - flanking and manoeuvring.

Instead I don't think I ever saw that. The only time I moved with someone was so he could lead and get shot first. In territory all I could do was "defend the point" or not move and wait till an enemy pops up so I can kill him. If I try to attack, I'll die to someone doing the same thing to me.
The only others I see attacking are also lone wolves.

I don't have time to join a proper clan so I'm stuck in public servers, and there are games I find more fun for my time. Until devs change gameplay or some mods come out, I'll leave this game mostly untouched.
