Bolt action rifles. The common man's standard firearm in the army when he had to defend the "motherland" or fatherland..and die for it most likely

So many designs, so many variants, yet in the end you can compile to several rifle types.

SO
What is your favorite bolt action rifle!
Feel free to trow in a top 3 or top 5

My top 5=

1.Carcano (i collect these italian beauties)
2.Mannlicher (Both straight pull as bolt action, austrian hungarian and foreign)
3.Mosin-nagant
4.Schmidt rubin
5.Swedish mauser

You could always just fit your Enfield with those old style bayonets that are the size of a gladius and poke with that instead.

well i have a No4 so you have the rather short Spike and blade bayonet

But yeah, take a mosin nagant for example, you can club somebodies skull in with it and it wont have any damage whatsoever!

This is my top 5 list

1: Swiss K31 (Unique straight pull design, beautiful, very high build quality, very tight tolerances and extremely accurate)
2: German K98k (The father of modern bolt action rifles, high build quality, very tight tolerances and extremely accurate)
3: Austrian Steyr Mannlicher Schn

Yeah but Pvri partisan is appreantly working around the clock now with 7.5x54 MAS and 8mm lebel because of very high demand. One gunshop in belgium has the ammo, i helded the package myself :) The MAS36 is indeed a very beautifull rifle, it looks sexy is compact has great sights. My buddy has one and i am very very very jealous

As for the mannlicher-Shoenauer, i just cant find one :( My mannlicher collection demands a Shoenauer but they are not easy to be found here in belgium.

But of all bolt action rifles...the K31 is simply the winner of them all. The amazing built quality and finish, the super smooth cycle action wich goes very fast. The awesome and highly accurate GP11 7.5x55 swiss(need to stock up on them soon :) but Pvri partisan also has good 7.5x55 swiss ammo). And all the beautifull markings <3

Yeah, it's right up there alongside the K98k in my book and just barely edges ahead because I so enjoy that straight pull bolt so much.

It's also the two rifle types in my collection that constantly battle for the title of most accurate. At the moment the K98 holds the title by the width of a hair at the 400 m range (longest shooting range nearby), managing a 0.71 MOA 5 shot group at that range, and the K31 managing a near indentical 0.78 MOA 5 shot group, both rifles mounting a modern 12x power scope. This is shooting surplus bullets refitted into modern brass casings with non corrosive primers btw.

1) M39s: Brilliant pieces of historical workmanship combined with wonderful aesthetics. They shoot wonderfully as well (I won't include any other Finnish rifle models since they would dominate my list).
2) Schmidt-Rubin K11s/K31s: Great workmanship, accuracy, etc.
3) Swedish Mausers: M38/M94/M96: Same reasons for the K11s and K31s. They are superb.
4) SMLE: Quick bolt and detachable 10-round magazine. What's not to like?
5) G98: Basis of most bolt-action rifles in the world. Although other variations have better performance, this one started it all.

Tried the Finnish M39 some years back, and it truly is a fantastic rifle, whole different animal than the Russian M91/30 which looks & handles like some old shed tool by comparison.

Gotta get my hands on one of those M39's for myself one day, it's definitely at the top of my priority list when I decide to go look for a new rifle to supplement the collection (which means when the missus lets me ).

Their combination of history, accuracy, and aesthetics is hard to beat. Artic Birch can look amazing.

I had a finnish nagant before,M91/27. Finnish nagants have something special. Especialy the M28 version, i love it.

Another special love goes to the M95/30 Steyr mannlicher for me. no other rifle gives you such a painfull recoil when firing :D

Yeah.. shooting issent cheap. you have to make choises
Because of changes in jobs, for next year i am only registering my Mosin nagant M91/30(stowing away my beautifull Hexa Dragoon) and Swedish mauser.

And i've decided to take surpluss ammo for both. My buddy just bought 880 of surplus 7.62x54 and he payed 200 euro. Thats 0.22 cents per round! If you buy of pvri partisan you pay 3 times as much. But then ofcourse you need to properly clean your rifle afterwards because of corrosive ammo..

A 220 gr out of a 8mm Mauser has a beastly recoil when loaded to full specs.

I've managed to propel some 220 gr SBT Sierra Gameking bullets along at 745 m/s through my old Husqvarna hunting rifle chambered in 8x57 JS once for hunting Elk. That'll wake you up on a cold November morning I can assure you!

A local hunter also shoots with that :D He hunts wild boars who heavily damage the forrests around here...When he fires, it shakes everyone up :D

Not sure wich rifle he had though, it was a commercial one chamberd for 8x57IS.
However not anymore though, as he switched to Hollow point ammo. Not sure what he shoots with now, havent seen him in awhile
