Probably the reason hardly any new games are made for Macs is because most of them have crappy video cards. The best one you can get without modifying it has a 4870, but you could get an equivalent PC for 2 grand less. My roommate would [try to] play Call of Duty 4 on his macbook on minimum settings and it still lagged a lot.

That's what you get with 3% global market share :p
I think that's more a result than a cause.

If Apple could acquire just a tiny share of the gaming industry, they could promote their platform for gaming.
They currently live on the fact that the graphics and music industry often runs on Mac, but even that is starting to fade out.
But it's also a virtuous circle. Apple doesn't invest in open standards like OpenGL, thus not gaining interest of developers, leaving Apple without interest to improve their game support.

Now that iPhone gaming is catching on, mobile gaming is rising aswell with good prospects for Android, webOS and Symbian aswell.
Apple is suddenly interested in acquiring EA shares to possibly fully acquire EA in the near future.
Also the fact that Intel is contributing to open standards is also very good news, as Intel powers the current Apple portfolio aswell.
It is also rumored that Intel hardware (x86) will power the next-generation Playstations.

The whole gaming industry is in turmoil. And hopefully the consumer will benefit.
I think that with a little patience, Mac gaming could actually be something in a year.

hmm I can't wait. Apple acquires EA and then only EA games will be available on mac only. Steam won't touch mac's and now you the consumer will have to have 2 computers to game the games you want to IE the consumer hurts but the companies make out. Problem is that mac fanboys will be mac fanboys and pc fanboys will be pc fanboys. As soon as everyone decides to work together then there will be pc fanboys having a beer with mac fanboys and the topic of discussion will be who shot who and not my so and so will eat your so and so.

i never saw the reason to buy a mac, besides beeing ''artsy'' and ''different''

they have nothing more to offer than a standard PC, have less programm support and cost a sh*tload more

oh i found a reason... they look cool dont they?

I got one. A MACPRO tbh.
And they have a lot more than standard PC's.
They get older in the right way, PC's are dead 2 or 3 years after u bought them. It's a fact, PC's get older in a nasty way.
In a MAC, everything is optimized and everything is built to work together in the best way possible.
And yeah, i'v got a Mac and i play on Windows via Bootcamp (free) that pallows you to install Windows on a Mac and it wroks pretty well.

I'll never really understand the Mac vs. PC arguement. Most of the problems that Apple claims against Microsoft are a result of the user, not the OS or hardware. Sure Windows has its faults, but I personally think that Apple tries to streamline too much, resulting in a lack of options and freedom.

If Apple does something like that EA will probably loose all sports licences, shareholders, etc.

If Apple invests in Valve, I'm sure they are willing to make Steam work on Mac.
Maybe even release games for it!
Miro!, macs have the same hardware as PC's. Think about that :p
Their software is less bloated though.

imo macs are just cool looking PC's with the option to run a different OS, wich has some nice stuff but seriously limits its usefullness for the averange gamer

Macs are more idiot proof than Windows.

Most users don't know what they're doing - hence it's often a better experience for casual users.

For people who know what they're doing, like most around here, it's really just personal preference.

Apple also has the advantage of making EVERY Mac. Compatibility and variability isn't an issue when you have that much control over the products.

Didn't the original Mod come out in Mac? UT2004 was available for Mac.

Bingo!

Besides there's nothing really inventive about Mac OS, all they did was take Unix, put a pretty skin on it and cut out half the user control.

Also while you can argue Mac's being completely proprietary is a good thing, it's also a bad thing, because there is next to no 3rd party application support it means Apple are free to charge as much as they damn well want for software that works on their machines. Which is why everything for Mac is insanely overpriced.

Is there any possibility that RO: HOS or RO: 41-45 be made for Mac computers?

Sorry, but like the others said before, first we need steam to come to Mac OS X. Members of the team have said to me before that they would be happy to release a Mac version, but steam has to support it first.

Also guys, cut the Mac-bashing because a. this thread isn't going to devolve into a flamewar and b. I don't wanna get into this argument for the 10,000th time :p
