I'm in the early stage of creating this map and am looking for additional data for it. I recall seeing pictures of the Seelow village taken during 1943-44, from an antiques dealer sometime back. I do know that the ridge was terraced about 100 yards north-to-south on two levels. There were community gardens and built in a scenic fashion to overlook the Oder river valley. The German army evacuated the village prior to the Soviet assualt and made several improved positions along the ridge and in the village itself.
There was a series of trench works below the terraces as well as MG bunkers in the gardens themselves. The line of sight and firezones were clearly defined leading down to the river bottoms.
Houses and buildings along the ridge top were gutted to allow tanks to hide within them and provide defilade when firing down onto the river area.
I found a custom map from the game, "Forgotten Hope" and note that the town never looked like that. Many of the buildings were small cottages and shops with the largest structure being a church in the village center. There was also a cemetary and park as well.
I've heard and read mixed accounts of Seelow Heights and have determined that it was very well defendable against the Russian armor and infantry, but that the Germans just did not have sufficient manpower to cover it.
Does anyone know of anyone else designing this type of map for RO?
