I think if you can run high/ultra settings and maintain around 40 FPS you are doing really well. Even though the game is Dx9 it uses a lot of enhancements that are GPU heavy. As well there are a ton of physics calculations that take up a lot of cpu/gpu usage. Everything is calculated in this game.

Witcher 2 and Metro are single player games that limit what needs to be calculated based on where you are and what you are interacting with individually. RO2 is calculating the actions of 64 players and their behaviors and actions simultaneously.
ARMA 2 runs fine with a lot more **** running around on screen and around my character than RO2 ever will have. The 6950 is still a high end card as well.

RO2 isn't the worst optimized game in existence (and no game will ever be worse than GTA IV in that regard), but man, it doesn't look good enough from a technical standpoint to not run at a solid 60 frames with high settings on most mid-high machines.

Luckily RO2 doesn't turn into CS 1.6 with a few settings turned down and it doesn't godawful even with some stuff on mid. Some optimization work down the line would be neat though, would love to be able to play it maxed.

My 6950 is working beautifully on this game without any need to unlock.
When I unlocked mine (First models they put out) games were very unstable so I rolled it back and it's all good. I can max the game easily. and play it on almost highest across three monitors when I feel like it.

If you do get the 6950 make sure to grab the Sapphire Flex edition.
It's boss, with tons of cables..

Or XFX has a double life-time warranty usually.

Then grab a second to crossfire in a year when they are super cheap.
Good times.

What are your other specs?

I have a HD5770 as well, also i7 920 @3.4Ghz and 6GB 1600MHz RAM. I get an average of 55 FPS on medium settings. I would not call that "running awesome". "Running awesome" would be everything maxed out on Ultra and still getting a stable 60+ FPS.

I have a AMD Phenom X6 1090T @ 3,5ghz, 8gb of 1333mhz DDR3.

You are right, it sorta came out wrong. That's why I said "I dont suggest getting this card, though". I was sort of referring that there's no mystical performance problem on my HD5770. Like we've seen here, cards way better than mine are struggling to get decent performance even with low settings.

I quickly tried to run the game at ultra, it felt at something like 30-40 fps maybe, so I just dropped it down to medium or something. Didn't mean to imply that the game would run at 60 fps on ultra, and this is why I said something like "but dont get this card", as I was just implying that at least not all AMDs are not struggling to run the game.
