So because a weapon is quicker, it's better?

Fire axe is a much more powerful weapon and can be used into later waves if you are a skilled beserker, while the machete has a tough time against clots.

where did i say that counts for all weapons? machette can take a husks head off with one blow on alt fire most others can be done with one excluding sirens/fleshpounds, etc

then again you get mobbed by a few crawlers i dont think the fire axe is going to save you anytime soon

Just played Berserker with a bunch of newbie mates of mine. Restricted myself to the axe and the machete, and didn't buy armour until the fleshpound waves...

Was actually alot of fun, but one thing I did notice, the machete has a slightly larger reach than the knife, and is WAY faster then the axe, so it does prove more useful when your getting swamped by crawlers. That being said, there isn't a reason to use any other weapon than the Katana atm, which is what makes the other Zerker weapons naff :)

Yay nice mate ! But about the range, ive made some test and the range bonus of the machete seems to be a little more (very little =/) than the knife.

Yeah I noticed that, its not much but it is there. The main advantage it has is a alt fire on the machete, if it doesn't decap stalkers, crawlers or clots, will still pack enough of a punch to usually drop them in 1 or 2 hits. Its not a great improvement on the knife, but there are momen ts when your surrounded that it does come in handt. Again pre Katana :)

Bullpup has a longer mag and better accuracy which can mean more damage factoring in missed and headshots.

LAR is much cheaper than M14 and can take out FPs usually in under half a mag ish depending on perk, level, and difficulty. Lv6 SS kills FPs on suicidal with 3 headshots from the LAR.

Macheteis only better than Katana in that is costs less, but it also weighs and costs to get compared to the knife. If you were going to get the machete, get a LAR or armor or practically anything else.

LAW takes up all the space everyone except Support, has little ammo, can easily kill you from self damage, and is a tougher than most weapons to use (ie iron sight to fire and takes up lots of screen).

There are decent reasons to use weapons that aren't the best, but machete and LAW are two weapons that no one should ever really use.

Why don't we just combine the worst of the two and give us 1 of the best weapons! Lets use the law as a melee weapon!

I'm semi serious, it takes some thought but having that huge bazooka hit you in the face has to do some serious damage, cuz it sure beats firing at a gorefast only to have it sprint toward u and ur rockets kills u instead.

To say if a weapon is useless, you should ask yourself do I have a better option?

And a better option means when weapon A is compared to B, when can weapon A do better and when B can do better. Before the Katana comes out, you have chainsaw that haven't been nerfed. And I dont see any suituation that Axe or Machete can do better than Katana or Chainsaw haven't been nerfed. So, there are ALWAYS a better oftion. Even you dont have enough money for Katana or Chainsaw, saving money for the next wave to buy them is a better oftion. So the result is, Axe and Machete are useless.

And IMO, LAW is useless too.

Chainsaw, full stop. It's terrible.

Followed very closely by the Machete and the 'Second 9mm Handgun'. Though, really, any melee weapon is junk aside from the Katana...

I miss the good old days when you "touch" the chainsaw with any clots/gorefasts/bloats/crawlers, they dies. And you can just stand there and wait those crawlers to jump towards the blade and die.

Machete, it is that in between the axe and the knife. The fact that it is basically a larger knife means that you have to treat it the same as you would your combat knife. The axe, while pretty useless at wave 5 or more, it is that weapon from the old mod as well as having the instant kill capabilities even on the harder difficulties

Haivng re-read this thread I have just had an epiphany. To be honest I think we have all slipped into level 6 mode thinking about it. Everything is so damned cheap for us we are forgetting the point of these lower tier weapons is for them to be a cheap weapon to buy when your saving up for the big stuff.

Since we get alot of our stuff for free and our top tier weapons for next to nothing we don't use them, as much as we like them. Thusly I think I'm gonna link this thread in the hopes it gets even more support :)

It's the discounts.
But even without discounts, the dual 9mms are still pretty useless imo.

waah waah waah. 9mm handguns are good. Sometimes I hold most/all of a given wave with them. Try a solo match with clot buster so that you can skill up, you noob.

Oh the irony.

9mm's are actually pretty decent, but it's still not recommended to use them on later waves.

I'd say the least satisfying is the chainsaw, which seems to be more annoying than anything. I've been working on a mutator lately that adds overheating (causing reduced damage depending on the heat), exhaust smoke, and I'm thinking of adding limited fuel and a cooldown for the alt-fire. So far it's pretty satisfying to use...

Lol. Irony is epic.

I'd say the LAW.
It was the one thing I would work towards in the mod, but now everyone works towards the m14 or Katana, things like that.

It's useless now in retail, I'm pretty sure that it can't even one shot a GOREFAST on 6 player hard, possibly Normal (not sure). And it is also EXTREMELY buggy, hitting a player 30-40ft away usually results in the dmg applying to me instead. Blown my self up so many times I daren't use it ever again.

Man, I was surprised to see the Axe cited so much. I'm honestly better with that beast than I am with the katana/chainsaw.

For me, it would have to be the machete. Even when I randomly pick it up on the first wave I barely use it. I say scrap it and replace it a blunt-force melee weapon like a cricket bat that can make heads explode, has a slower attack speed than the axe but does more damage per swing than the axe, and makes your character say "Don't stop me now"

(+internet/zombie points if you get the reference)
