I have a problem here. I am not at home, I installed steam at another computer, and downloaded Killing Floor.
When I start the game I cannot play multiplayer because it says that steam must be running and I have to have an internet connection. I have deleted clientregistry, and the entire steam except the steam exe itself and the folders and still nothing. Help?

Sounds like a steam client issue more than a kf one. Try reinstalling the steam but make sure to back up killing floor first so you don't have to redownload it.

Or try contacting steam support.

I have steam and internet. It is obvious. I even checked if it was the firewall, or NOD32 that it's blocking it, but no. I have re-installed steam and KF both already.

Try to verify the integrity of the game cache by right-clicking on the game in the steam interface.

I just noticed, the friends overlay won't start up at all.
also, the PC is connected directly through the modem, no router.
I think that SOMETHING is blocking it, but best of my knowledge there is only nod32 and Win firewall. Both of which I have added steam to the exceptions.
Could this be the problem? Should I try to disable nod too? Or I need to open up ports? If yes, how?

Have you told your firewall to ignore killingfloor.exe as well?

If you want to see if ports fix up your problems, you'll need to assign yourself a static IP, then look at which ports to forward. Those can be found when you host a game. A window will open up telling you ports are used by KF.

However, if your shift-tab overlay doesn't work, it's definitely a Steam problem. The overlay should work as long as Steam has loaded itself over the game properly.

In any case, if the issue is with steam, tweaking ports or connection settings would be likely a waste of time.
