Map Name: KF-Devil'sPlayground
"Here in the cathedral of hell, you face hordes of enemies who are as numerous as they are ferocious; who laugh in evil tongues at your efforts to survive. This is suicide."

This map is still heavily in construction and not yet ready for the beta, but wanted to display what I have done so far to hopefully get some feedback. Almost ready for beta testing!

Finished the spawn rooms, zombie volumes, pathing, and trader... I will be raising the fog high enough so that the crawlers are completely concealed under it.

looks like a snipers heaven

Well it wouldn't be a stadium without one big open field. There are 10 entrances for zombies so they will be quite spread out compared to like a long hallway where you can cap like 10 zombies with a single bow shot.

Yeah, alot more stadium 'style lights will get added, and the stadium lights right now are just corona's anyways.

Well it wouldn't be a stadium without one big open field. There are 10 entrances for zombies so they will be quite spread out compared to like a long hallway where you can cap like 10 zombies with a single bow shot.

Yeah, alot more stadium 'style lights will get added, and the stadium lights right now are just corona's anyways.

thats a bad thing man. open areas are easy for snipers. map wont get whitelisted

Appreciate your opinion but I would have to disagree with you. There are plenty of maps that are whitelisted that have bigger, more open areas than this... believe it or not, but Foundry's main room is actually bigger than my stadium. The only difference is that is has the two gears that helps seperate the room. Doom's blue room and hallway's are much more easier to snipe in than my map. If you don't like the stadium style map, you don't have to play it. DeathBasinSands makes this map feel claustrophobic. It will get whitelisted, it is a very challenging map as you will get surrounded and over run quickly.

Added more screens with alot more work done. Started with a standard stadium feel, and decided to go for a stadium in hell look. I think it's really starting to turn out pretty nice. I still have alot I want to do to it though before I release a beta.

Thanks man, I want players to get that "final showdown" feel from duke nuke'm when he battles the huge boss on the football field. I will have a beta up here soon and will submit it for whitelisting when I do. Stay Tuned...

*Is there anything anyone can think of that should be added to this map? Tall Statues, pile of skulls, anything you could think of, let me know.

We asked for a Night version of Death Bassin at first. But TWI whitelisted the map anyway. But that was at the very beginning of KEPT and perhaps TWI wasnt trusting us enough, idk. But hopefully more people will ask to remove the day version of Death Bassin. And trust me, the Whitelist is getting cleaner every day. In 2-3 months, we will be completely done with the maps on the Whitelist. And from what i have seen and tested in the previous 8 months, maps with long hallways dont have a lot of chances to get whitelisted.

Your map is still in alpha so things might change, but the blue room in Doom2 is not the place where you would like to snipe because the hallway in front of the door is like 3 meters long and the other hallways are like 20 meters long. And if things turn wrong, you are stuck in the middle of the halllway and in the blue room, the zeds will spawn from the ceiling. From what i can understand, you spawn in the middle of the room and the zeds will come from the hallways and thats the problem.


I suggest you to PM me a version of your map when you will think it is near the beta (or when you will be submitting it for the WL) so i can tell you what modifications you should do when it comes to difficulty (if you need to change something) and hopefully save you time because the whitelist updates are pretty much every 2 weeks and waiting a month can be pretty long if your map is rejected because it is too easy.


But anyway, i really like what i see so far. But the floor seems a bit too clean.

EDIT: Oh if you find really easy maps, send a PM to Yoshiro, Xienen or me.

Well, the doom map needs to be un-whitelisted then, because you can hold up in the crawler room (opposite of blue room) and have your entire squad chill there why everyone but one guy focuses fire down that very long hallway while that one guy takes out all the spawning crawlers and stalkers.

As far as difficulty of my map, I want to make it harder than my last map "KF-Requiem" in which BartBear made a video of how his team only made it to wave 3 on suicidal the first time. On KF-Devil'sPlayground, you are going to be surrounded by endless spawns of different heights, some greater than yours. I'm going to have the zombies spawn as fast as possible and have the tunnels darkened. There will be jumps added for the zombies to surprise the players when they see a fleshy jump from the outer rim of the map to right in front of there face. Husks will be spawning on high ground to make effective use of their gun.

I think you will have to be a very nasty sharpshooter to keep tabs on all the zombies coming at you from all directions. Most players will hang out in the very center of the map to give them maximum distance from them and the bottom spawns, but that still is not a whole lot of distance. I will not release a beta until me and a friend of mine have tested long enough. And when I do, I'll PM you notifying of it's beta release. As far as whitelisting, sure I would like it to get whitelisted, but it's not a big deal to me, I just love making good quality, challenging maps. This is my 4th map now, and haven't submitted a single one for whitelisting yet, just b/c it's not a whole lot of concern to me.

As far as you say about the floors, do you mean literally "clean." I do plan on adding some blood splatters, body parts, and bones around the skirts of the floor... but if you are referring to detail, what would you suggest I add?

Yeah dont worry, we just noticed that the grass area is pretty easy to defend and TWI will decide what to do with the map. Also, i like those ideas to make it more difficult :eek: :cool

Oh and yeah i was refering to body parts and blood on the floor.

Personally, I think you could get this map whitelisted easily. Big zeds coming from the tunnels, crawlers/stalkers from the stadium stands, a spawn rate of 0.1, and very few ammo boxes/kfrandomweapon spawns.

As far as looks go, i kinda like the clean look of the stadium. The texturing looks really nice. Maybe turn the kfbloodprojector to 90 degrees so the blood looks like it is coming down the spike with the impaled guy. It seems like the sky though should be more dramatic. Maybe some red/orange dust particles in the sky box with a really small scale so it looks more like the devils playground. Maybe some ppl in cages that move up and down into lava and have a trigger play a scream sound when they hit the lava.

Anyway, looks nice. Message me if you want to test it with some fellow mappers.

Thanks for the feedback man! I like the clean look of the stadium also. I will turn the blood projector so it projects on the spikes. When I'm finally done with the map, it will be completely dome'd in but the sky will be visible through tall glass (church like) windows but I will consider adding dust coming through the windows with some wind sounds. I deffinitely like the people in cages idea, will have some cages hanging from the ceiling but don't think I will add them moving up and down into the lava, not high speed enough for that yet, maybe, don't know.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Been busy at work this week so not much done the last 2 days. This weekend you can expect alot more progress to get done, maybe even some beta testing. I would love help with testing of the map and will post on here first when the map is ready for that.
