I haven't changed any settings on meshes. Just a simple copy & paste of fog and light icon into my map.

I didn't duplicate terrain. I should add that if I delete the lights and fog and rebuild lighting, my map size goes to 224mb. So it is the lighting that is causing the issue, but it seems to be any lighting, even if i create a new light and rebuild it goes up to 800mb.

There seems to be 2 shadows. If I move an object, say a tree, in my map it has a different shadow that what is being shown, look:

So it seems to be building 2 types of shadows? the weird looking shadow stays still while the detailed shadow moves with the object.

in your post #62 are those trees single StaticMeshes? That looks some heavy duty **** there. excuse me if im lost the track here but im littlebit drunk and I've been off mapping few year so all this new Unrealed gives me some headache...

One thing in UnrealEd is annoying. And the thing is that you accidentaly can copy items or move items you dont want to... And you cannot undo the changes.. thats why I always save my map into new numer lie mymap1, mymap2.. etc.. each hour of mapping.. so I dont lose more than few hours work tops if something goes wrong.. I've started too many mapes from skratch too many times

They're single destructible meshes. This problem only occurred once I copy and pasted the new light icon, I never touched anything else

You have two dominant lights. Open content browser and go to scene tab and type light in the filter and you will see.

aha. I swear that was only there because I hadn't been saving the maps after it went up to 800mb. I actually delete that and it's still 800mb. So I have bcastshadow off, 1 domi light, and still 800mb. Maybe it's just how big my map is with shadows. I guess I'll start work on an older build (1 day behind) and keep the old light which doesn't look as good.

Another thing, I tried to cook my map and all I get is this:

How long does cooking usually take? Because this is over in a few seconds and there's no saved file anywhere.

the time to cook a maps is few secs to ~2 minutes

mapsize issue where u save your custom content , under the mapname or in a seperate package ?

Ok, I just went in to an old save that didn't have any copy&pasted lights, added my own light (deleting the old one), typed the same settings (not copying & pasting the icon) and my map goes up to 874mb after build. There's a setting somewhere that is screwing this up. My old save doesn't have shadows so I'm assuming this has something to do with it. The only thing I did was untick bCastShadows on the terrain (which should of lowered the map size?)

Your maps needs to be in the CookedPC folder.

Documents\my games\RedOrchestra2\ROGame\Unpublished\CookedPC

Also you would want shadows on terrain. Dynamicshadows you don't really need.

this problem with error failed to load base level appears when u doesnt use a folder with the ,,mapname,, in the ,,maps,, folder ---cookedPC/Maps/mymap/TE-mymap.roe

Yeah thanks for the help, got it sorted and played my map ingame, looks fantastic although my shadows are a bit strange since turning off dynamic shadows.

It seems like we are entering the golden age of RO2 mapping. I see a great future for the RO2 community especially after the release of RS. I knew from the beginning when I first purchased RO2 that I was going to join a community for the long run. Even after we hit a long dry spell, I still had faith that this game would become more and more amazing over time.

Btw, I noticed you also suffer from the jittery single-player movement bug. I hope TWI get to fixing that one before RS releases.

I thought that was due to the bots + max settings + recording, on my own I don't get any jitteryness

And thanks for the nice words. I also can't wait to make a map for Rising Storm but I think it's time RO2 had a remake of the Enemy of the Gates opening scene
