I don't understand why they used this as an "Unlock" when it wasn't even used by the Germans. This was a Czech item...what the Germans actually used was a "Winter Trigger". It was a device that locked into place inside the triggerguard an had small lever outside the guard that could be moved to fire the rifle with gloves on. ;)
This I think would have made a neater anmore authentic device as an upgrade. Don't have a picture handy but will try an post one, unless someone else beats me to it. :)

I unlocked the "Winter Triggerguard" lately an looked at my rifle an I can't see anything different...The winter triggerguard was large an oblong looking an I can't see it on weapon. Anyone else notice this, or have a comparison screenshot of before an after?

It hasn't been modelled yet guys, just like the 6x Zielsechs scope for the K98k hasn't been modelled yet either. I guess they never expected people to unlock these upgrades as quickly as they did, thinking they had time to model these features before people could unlock them.

Thanks for posting a response. :) I wish they would make it the Winter Trigger(device inside the triggerguard area) instead. http://e-sarcoinc.com/wwiigermanwintertriggerassemblyreproduction.aspx
IT was used, and would be neat feature, and noticeable. Also, They(Germans) did not even use the "Winter Triggerguard"...That was a Czech postwar item.

I was looking at that a long while back and thinking to myself.. this sounds like a really useless upgrade.

Exactly! Wish it would have been the grenade launcher adapter instead...:)
That was one of the things I liked about DoD...it would have been nice to be able to shoot a few nades alittle further, and also maybe have an AT Nade...

what is the point of this unlock anyway? It allows you to wear a glove so you dont get frostbite half way through the match?

You cant even argue that it's cosmetic since neither you nor teammates/enemies can see it.

Seems to me it was just put in due to the necessity of SOME sort of unlock for the K98, as well as TWI's refusal to come to terms with the fact that an unlock system in an "authentic" ww2 shooter is out of place.

Was thinking it would have been nice if maybe the "50" unlock could have been a "Trenchmag" :) that would have been cool, an useful ...I had one for my K98... it was a late war stamped triggerguard with a K43 mag welded in place...worked awesome. 10 rounds instead of 5 for the K98 would have atleast been of some use...;)
Please give the bolt guys something atleast....lol
