So I was watching a lot of footage of Stalingrad and some other Ostfront videos, and I saw a lot of K98's with slings, I just had an idea to change the Winter Trigger Guard to a sling, since you can't even really tell the difference with the stock Trigger Guard. What do you guy think?

does this include the use of a sling braced position?
Mmm. The addition of a sling would basically require its use as a brace, which would make the weapon sway less than it already does (which is kinda the point, but anyway). People are already complaining about standing rifle sway being too little, so I don't see many people endorsing this.

Well, I was thinking of it more being used as a cosmetic item, I actually never thought of it being used like that.

The vast majority of soldiers used slings because if you have ever had the chance to use one of these rifles and carry it for a few hours, you will notice it makes life so much easier if you have it slung on a shoulder and not dependent on your grip all day long. Slings are good for stabilizing shots but for the pace of RO2 I don't think it would be worth it to enable a sling stabilized mode.

I voted yes because K98's during the war issued by Germany had slings but NONE had winter trigger guards. The trigger guard was a post war modification by the forces of what was Czechoslovakia at the time.

Why did they add it in the game then...? It seems very foolish of them, or just a huuuuuuuge mistake. xD

The whole concept of unlocks requires stuff to unlock. ( what a tautology ).

In the case of rifles, what is there to unlock? Well, basically some fancy do dads is about it, pull the sight hood off ( which some soldiers did so I have no problems with that ), but beyond simple visual stuff your very limited.

In my opinion I would have gone with unlocking other rarer guns that only one person could be using ( IE the Winchester 1895 Lever action, of which 300,000 were exported to Russia before the revolution, in 7.62x54R ).

I WW2 they used slings for carrying a weapon. Not suposed to be used as a brace.
It is something you do while hunting deer etc.

I challenge you to post pictures (multiple), from the WW2 era, of riflemen using their slings as a brace.

Vietnam era slingnab? :

I can hardly find any of riflemen from the Vietnam era who use it as a brace.

What next, "tactical shouldering"?

I always wanted slings in all the time, an unlock could work too I guess. If they do I would like it to be on a lot of other weapons too.

BUT ONLY

If the sling has proper physics and actually moves around with the character and isn't just stiff.

You are sort of right and wrong at the same time.

Ofcourse it was also supposed to be used as a brace when possible. The thing is, it was not and it is not practical in a combat situation where you do not have time to take perfect pose and calmly aim for perfect shots.

So there really is no room for the sling in that sense. Well, one could implement that, but the point of using it would not be there in a fast paced game.

And to the topic itself, I just can not understand why they put the Czech-thing in and did not implement the real German winter trigger...

I've watched ww2 training videos for the M1 Garand and M1 carbine, all of them went over the sling brace position in standing, kneeling, and prone.

Google around for M1 Garand training videos and Im sure you can find them yourself, I dont feel like getting them at work.

Seen the video's.

Looks like a complicated procedure though.
Did they adjust it as a brace everytime when they wanted/needed to or did they just leave it like that?
Because it beats the idea of firing in the standing position (only when speed is required, kneel or prone for precision) if you have to do the adjustment everytime.

Slings' should be on the rifles in first person view anyway.

The winter trigger guard was a Czech manufactured post war item and should not be in the game.

Except it wasn't. This was a German wartime manufactured item for use in Russia so the soldiers could fire their rifles with their full gloves on.

Here is a wartime k98 with it on.

The whole upgrade system needs to be reworked. Why they thought taking off the site hood or adding this to the game made any sense is baffling.

I think you have the winter triggerguard and winter trigger mixed up.

The winter trigger guard like the one seen in the pics you just posted is NOT a WW2 German made item. It is a post war Czech item. It doesnt matter if its on a WW2 made K98...plenty of those trigger guards were put on czech reworked/captured rifles post war. There isnt a single legit example of a WW2 German made K98 with that type of winter trigger GUARD.

The Real german WW2 item was the Winter TRIGGER like the one in RedGuardist's post. Those werent used untill late 43/44 & 45...and they were RARE.

It would be nice to see the K98 with a sling in first person view for eye candy only. But then again every weapon in game besides the pistols should have a sling on it from level 0. The devs didnt put them in for poly count reasons.

Any documentation on that? I have seen a few of them with WaA on them, and either they had original stamps to stamp the WaA on them (Only a few were done after the fact), or they were in fact made during the war (Maybe not issued widely)

*Edit* Now that I think of it...I think they mostly came off of VZ 24's... Would explain how they ended up German guns, but still looked right.
