So I've followed all the steps and forwarded all the ports, but the problem I'm having is that I'm on a router.

Instead of using my public IP, it's using my local computer IP and defaulting my server into the LAN browser.

Any ideas?

Same here, and when I try using the command given on the first page to set the IP, the dedicated server window just closes itself.

Sorry for double post, but here's what I see:

Log: Failed to listen: WinSock: binding to port 7707 failed (48981384)
Exit: Socket shut down
Critical: Dedicated server can't listen: WinSock: binding to port 7707 failed (48981384)

Ports are forwarded. Any ideas?

Thats normal. If you have the ports forwarded on your router correctly, then it will appear in the server browser for those outside your LAN [and you will also see it in the internet server browser, too].

If your server is only showing up locally, not in ther server browser, then you likely don't have your ports forwarded correctly.

I've got the ports listed in the stickied thread forwarded. I have Windows Firewall and Avira Guard disabled. I've even tried using a DMZ. No matter what, it doesn't work. Neither listen nor dedicated servers show up on the main browser.

Did you change anything? I still can't get mine to work.

The weird thing is that all my friends on Steam see 'Catbarf is now playing a game. Click here to join' when I join my own dedicated server. Yet they don't when I host a listen server.

Okay, So we've taken about 5 huge steps foward, and one big one back. I started from scratch, and it turns out that it DOES matter where i place my KF Server folder. At first i just had it on my Desktop, but i decided to try to just put it in my C:\ Drive. Worked like a charm, and the HLserver update actually downloaded all the necissary things. I also found out that the one port that was supposed to be both TCP And UDP was only TCP, so i changed that. The server's now up, the Killingfloor.ini is tweaked to my liking, and all is well, except for 1 thing. I can't connect to my own server, due to the following error:

Failed Launching URL Package "engine" version Mismatch

Any ideas what this means? i'm so close! Thanks for all the help so far.

I haven't tried a listen server, but I *think* the ports are different for listen servers. When you click on 'host' in the game menu, it shows you list of ports that need to be forwarded, and they are different than the ones listed in the server guides...at least, they are for me.

This means your version and the servers are different. Your game should be 1001, the server should be version 2.

Awesome. Server's up and running like a charm. If i had taken the time to read some of the most recent posts, i would've found that all i needed to do was Restart my Steam client, and the update would be applied. Now my only problem is 1. My server is laggy, even for my gf, who sits 3 feet from me, as well as mostly anyone who joins my game, despite the fact that their pings are usually less than 100. Also, whenever i've got my server up, it gives me a warning that my ethernet cable is being plugged and unplugged... is there any relation with that problem, my server being up, and my server being laggy?

Thanks for adding the console specific commands. Much better now. :c)

Also, can you change that blue color for the titles? It is REALLY hard to see.

Out of curiosity, when you are running two servers at once, are they running out of the same folder? I have mine using two different folders.

Also, is there a way to incorporate one .bat file to update the server first and then run it?

I run multiple servers from different folders to maintain the different port addresses we need. We can typically start different .ini files located in the same folder by adding the requisite command in the launch .bat for separate instances but I also prefer to maintain folders separately to ensure that each server has its unique set of files which may be customised independently from other folders.

For the update and launch .bat some games have offered an auto update command for the launch .bat which auto updates the files and boots the server after installation. Once we get a chance to test all these capabilities we can update the tut.

I'm also hoping that we'll get a feedback message feature in the server console window when our server files are out of date as this is a common feature for hlds servers.

Tell us your server pc specifications and also your upload speed. Is your server running on the same pc as the client or a standalone box?

Where did you place your server folder?
What command line did you place in your .bat for downloading the server files?

Add a screenshot of the contents of your server folder so we can see what you've got please.
