Anything I should be aware of before making the switch from Vista to 7?

I plan on doing it over the weekend...

anyone else already done it?

I've been using it since Beta and I'm happy with it. No issues at all, installed all drivers itself and really nice performance (something I can't say about Vista. I upgraded from this one) and I'm using RC 7600 64bits.
In my opinion, you should give it a chance

I'm gonna go for the 64bit.
I intend to install on a new HD and keep the XP drive as it is.

Should there be a preference in boot settings, sata 1 or sata 2.
I'm used to the master/slave setup but I'm not sure about choosing between separate/independent hard drives.

I intend to slowly move over to the Windows 7 drive.

Will Office Small Business 32bit (Word/Excel et all) function ?

Grr I bought the pro upgrade from vista premium (cant do an inplace keep all files upgrade) and my hard drive is being annoying and not wanting to partition, so its going to be another few weeks until I can find enough time to back up my files and install 7. :(

I'm curious and (having never purchased a copy of windows ever) considering it. My only issue with changing operating system is the general stability I have achieved with XP. I'm totally familiar with all the ins and outs.
I don't want to upgrade only to have teething problems all over again, as well as big issues with backwards compatability with older titles.

That is why I'm going for a new HD for W7 and keeping my XP drive as is.
Got loads of data and stuff that I need/want to keep.

I went from "98" to XP, missing out the in-betweeners with no regrets.
I reckon now is the time to move on once again.

Yeah I agree on all that as well, if you find it for cheap or just fancy a fresh new OS go for it. The only real reason to keep XP on, apart from back up etc, is for the small minority of games that only run on XP/98 only, other non 3D software isnt an issue due to win7's XP virtual machine (though I cant think there would be many that you would still be running and wouldnt run on win7).

299€ for the upgrade version?
are they out of their minds?!?
i mean seriously, the upgradeversion should be way cheaper, considering how ****ty Vista was

id actually consider buying it if the upgrade version would be something around 100€

Kraut- thanks for the heads up.

I'm running 64 bit Vista, so should I have any problems? I'll make double-sure I back everything up, just in case. And I have my emergency "I NEED AN OS NOW!" linux install disks standing by...

The problem seem to only affect people who have a 32 bit XP or Vista installed. If you upgrade or fresh install from a 64 bit Vista you should be fine.

Here's for more info:

Btw, the workaround (transforming the downloaded install files to a bootable iso-file and burning that on a DVD) worked for me and apparently for most others. There's several step-by-step guides. The good side-effect is I also have a bootable install DVD now without paying the 13 € they try to charge you extra.
