Either the textures get messed up and corrupted - like when your video card is frying itself, or some effects and items misalign, get missing...
I run all my steam games in window mode to be avalaible for chat if I have a respawn timer or a short break. I like to keep being in contact.
But getting KF to window mode is a HUGE pain in the ***, it simply isn't supported consistently enough.

And no, I don't like the FIFTY-TWO SECOND wait of alt-tabbing out before my PC stops dying from the huge load killing floor puts on it.
(AMD Athlon 64 5.2GhZ , 2G DDR 2 RAM 667 MhZ, Geforce 8600 GT 128)

One thing that may help your alt tabbing is getting more ram. On average KF uses 800MB of my ram + 1GB ram in virtual memory. When I go between full screen and windowed it sometimes takes quite a while. I'm not sure what happens during switching modes but maybe it's re-rendering all the textures for the new screen res and since many are in the swap file, it has to hit the hdd a lot. If you have a 2nd hdd separate from where your game is installed then try putting your swap file on that hdd and see if it speeds it up any.

If it looks like the card is frying then try running it with reduced settings and see if it lifts some weight off the card and cleans up the graphics. I had a prob in the past with my vid card memory overheating and made things look messy.

FIVE POINT TWO GHZ?! Jesus Christ, AMD really outdone themselves!

That, or that was one of those typos that give nerds a stiffy...

Not that i am implying that i am one...

Forgot to mention dual core lol.
Meh, my PC can handle worse things than Killing Floor, it can put them in window mode and they DO NOT DIE =3.
Window mode =\= alt-tabbing.

A 52 second wait... 5.2 Ghz.. That is exactly a 10 second wait per Ghz, the correlation is uncanny. If I've learned anything from The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, it is that cause = correlation , so try dropping your gigahertz to 0.104 and see if it switches in 1 second.

But joking aside :), did you try lower texture quality to see if it made any difference? Maybe also try setting the full screen res to the same as the windowed res and see if that makes it switch smoother.

The problem is I'm not a retard with computers, I fully know the game should not be doing this to my system :p.
The whole window mode corruption is what makes me go rwar, it ruins the ease of accessibility by simply corrupting textures .-P
