I'll buy the game if there are no tanks, but I'll be very dissapointed. The best round I ever played was when we had a completly organized team, and the enemy did too. We were playing on an old map. It's got two sides, basically, seperated by a river. On one side is the last line of the Red Army. On the other side is everything else. So, the Germans pushed us back really fast (they would throw the weight of their entire team onto the individual objectives, so you'd have about 13 men vs 25) at murderous cost. So, soon we found ourselves on the other side of the river with 68% reinforcments, whilst the Germans controlled everything else and had 55%. Our tank was in a prepared fighting position, a slope of dirt protecting most of its hull. Then, suddenly, BAM, a round hit the turret of the T-34. Two German tanks started advancing. The T-34 fired and knocked out one of the German tanks (they were Panzer IIIs, I think) but then got hit a second time and died.
The remaining German tank started shelling us with HE and keeping our heads down with machine-gun fire. 20 or so German infantry began advancing across the river very quickly whilst their own machine-gunners and snipers covered them. One guy managed to shoot the tank gunner as he was peering out of his hatch, but he got cut down immediatly by a burst of MG fire. Around that time, our tank respawned. The infantry were closing in, and we were all told to get our grenades out. The platoon leader stood up and looked out for a second and then ducked back down. He ordered us to all throw our grenades. Unfourtunatley, the Germans had very good spacing, so our grenades only killed 4 of them. After that, the tank really started screwing with us, managed to kill 5 of us with HE shells. Their second tank was just pulling up, too. All seemed lost, and then, BAM, the tank that had just appeared exploded. The first tank still had HE selected, so it started backing up. It was not fast enough, however, and it exploded as well. Our T-34 was back, and after killing the tanks it began raining down MG fire upon the advancing German infantry. They were suppresed, so we were allowed to stand up and return fire at last. Every German died within a minute, I think. The Germans made several more equally well-organized assualts, but they were all thrown back by our tank.
In short, I think the game would really be lacking if there were no tanks. They are amazing support tools and can change the round if used properly.
