I'll still buy the game. The infantry combat is the most fun part of the first game so I don't mind. Still, tanks would still be fun. Me and two of my friends used to jump into a single tank and scream at each other when we failed to work together, and that was quite often.. ah, good times.

I'll buy the game if there are no tanks, but I'll be very dissapointed. The best round I ever played was when we had a completly organized team, and the enemy did too. We were playing on an old map. It's got two sides, basically, seperated by a river. On one side is the last line of the Red Army. On the other side is everything else. So, the Germans pushed us back really fast (they would throw the weight of their entire team onto the individual objectives, so you'd have about 13 men vs 25) at murderous cost. So, soon we found ourselves on the other side of the river with 68% reinforcments, whilst the Germans controlled everything else and had 55%. Our tank was in a prepared fighting position, a slope of dirt protecting most of its hull. Then, suddenly, BAM, a round hit the turret of the T-34. Two German tanks started advancing. The T-34 fired and knocked out one of the German tanks (they were Panzer IIIs, I think) but then got hit a second time and died.

The remaining German tank started shelling us with HE and keeping our heads down with machine-gun fire. 20 or so German infantry began advancing across the river very quickly whilst their own machine-gunners and snipers covered them. One guy managed to shoot the tank gunner as he was peering out of his hatch, but he got cut down immediatly by a burst of MG fire. Around that time, our tank respawned. The infantry were closing in, and we were all told to get our grenades out. The platoon leader stood up and looked out for a second and then ducked back down. He ordered us to all throw our grenades. Unfourtunatley, the Germans had very good spacing, so our grenades only killed 4 of them. After that, the tank really started screwing with us, managed to kill 5 of us with HE shells. Their second tank was just pulling up, too. All seemed lost, and then, BAM, the tank that had just appeared exploded. The first tank still had HE selected, so it started backing up. It was not fast enough, however, and it exploded as well. Our T-34 was back, and after killing the tanks it began raining down MG fire upon the advancing German infantry. They were suppresed, so we were allowed to stand up and return fire at last. Every German died within a minute, I think. The Germans made several more equally well-organized assualts, but they were all thrown back by our tank.

In short, I think the game would really be lacking if there were no tanks. They are amazing support tools and can change the round if used properly.

I don't know if I would buy it, because my favourite maps are the combined arms map like Kryukovo, Leningrad, Kriegstadt, Pariserplatz and Gorlitz. Tanks might not be so realistic in ROOST, but they play a major role in the game.

Well, i voted NO.

This game is supposed to be from a historical POV, as real as possible.

Tanks (including heavy tanks) was used in Stalingrad battle for sure like my thread proves (locked now)...not only in the outskirts but also in the city itself both by Germans and Soviets, like my thread shows even with some footage.

If you google it, you might find more footage about it...

SPW 250\10 or 11 (aka Sdkfz 250). Reconnaisance halftracked armed with 37mm gun (10) or 28mm gun (11). If someone is nitpicky enough to tell the diffrence regarding structure, plates or so feel free to note :p

Just a heavy anti tank rifle (as the germans referred it) mounted on top of a vehicle.

if you vote no then fine - but you don't need to prove any historical use of tanks in stalingrad - you'll find most ppl here are fully clued up and aren't voting 'yes' because they believe tanks are inappropriate.

ppl are voting 'yes' simply cos they trust that even as an infantry only game (whether or not that is their preference), it will be worth buying.

However if you are saying no because tanks happened to play a part in the battle, by the same token would you reject the game if it didn't feature playable air combat and bombing operations?
of course if it's simply because you want to use tanks, fair enough, but that's a different matter.

I'm voting yes because it's not very often that a realistic game based on the Eastern Front is released. I will admit that I'm not much of a tanker, but I don't think that the possible lack of vehicles should prevent anyone from buying the game. If you're a real WWII buff then you will probably buy this automatically.

dodbadger speaks the truth.

Also, AJSB - what "heavy" tanks featured in Stalingrad (at least, in number justifying depiction in HOS)?

Medium tanks yes the KV-1, and maybe some larger self propelled guns/offboard but...

the correct title should be:

"Will you guys buy RO:HOS if there are no tractors?"

As you guys should know, the first and only tank was made after the battle of stalingrad... the only vehicles in Stalingrad were tractors like the Pz4 or the much better (but still a tractor) T34

The most prized tank in the battle at Stalingrad, for the Germans, was a plain old assault gun/StuG. Many infantry units would refuse or have to be prodded to attack without one in support. I would hope that they are added to the German side. Very few Russian light tanks survived by the time of the battle, I believe one BT7 was present in one factory area, but was dug in/buried on purpose in rubble to operate as a static position. A few KV1s were present but most Russian armor in the early months, were T34s.

To not buy the game because there are no tanks would be a huge mistake, in my opinion. The infantry play is very good, the AI is generations better, and the world looks fantastic and is sure to get even better. Granted, I am a big CA fan, and would prefer armor from day one but that is certainly no reason to abandon the title if they are not there.

TWI is not EA or Activision spewing forth pure console-ized bullsh!t every 10 months. I would go as far to say that if someone walks away from HoS/TWI over tanks, then so be it. No one is making anyone buy the game, it is a free choice to do so and frankly, 99.9% of players in general have no concept of what goes into creating games and content in the first place - and it is typically the limitations of time and money that drive content and the features.

It is hard to imagine TWI not releasing vehicles at some point. Only their team knows what will happen and when, if at all. In the end, draw your own conclusions and make your own fiscal spending choices based on whatever you choose to believe makes the sun rise.

I'd buy it, but I'd be *****ing about lack of tanks in every post I wrote.

Tank hunting is fun! As well are combined arms maps.
