Will Tripwire offer servers of their own in different regions for the matchmaking?

The one thing that concerns me is that it seems like Tripwire is not going to offer a decent amount of servers.

Most of the online games nowadays offers a good number of servers AND allow dedicated servers. But it seems like we will be strictly dependent on paying / hosting our own Dedicated Servers.

This was a really good opportunity for Tripwire to step in and offer servers in different regions for the Matchmaking system. Again, they should allow dedicated servers, but on top of that they could offer a decent number of servers.

Even games like Evolve offered multiple servers of their own during the beta / release. They even offered servers for regions like South America.

It might not see like a huge problem, but for example if someone from a certain region doesn't have online dedicated servers near them they might be forced to join a North American server with high ping or just straight not playing the game. This directly hurts the playerbase and longevity of the game.

Expecting the players to pay for Game Server Providers in order to play a game that they already paid for is something that should stay in the 2004~2008 era of online gaming.

The easier you allow the players to find servers (without paying and hosting) the more online players you have.

If you let the playerbase be dependent on dedicated servers you might lose a significant number of online players in regions outside the US, and the more online players you have the better the community becomes, more discussions in different forums, more people talking about the game on twitter, more videos on youtube, more streams on twitch, etc.

Again, if you live in the US it might not look like a big deal for you, but it can hurt regions like South America.

a) We've worked with a bunch of GSPs to host a bunch of servers.

b) Evolve has a slightly different budget to us.

c) You can host a server on most half-decent PCs - it isn't 2004~2008 era of online gaming.

Is it possible to host a server on the same computer you are playing from?

I am sure there will be more than ample amount of servers to play on. If you need one in your region, then host it yourself. Evolve beta and post release has been a complete debacle. Game died off even faster than Titanfall. KF2 will be much better and have a much longer shelf life. And it is priced a helluva lot better too!

I think there should be a peer-to-peer player hosting option as well. I believe that's what Payday 2 uses, but I'm always a fan of games with dedicated servers. But for people that want to just play with their friends without the complexity of setting up their own server, or for people that don't mind joining a player hosted match through the matchmaking system, this should really be a feature.

Sure, you can always host as a listen server.

Is this functionality built into Killing Floor 2 in the current state? Because I always hosted my own listen server for friends on Killing Floor and I wasn't able to locate it on the sequel. I tinkered with the dedicated server tool in steam but it wouldn't launch so I gave up and rented a 6 man private server for 1 month.

Would love to be able to host my own listen server again in the future.

Yes, it is. I hosted a dedicated server yesterday and played in it, all using the same machine.
It went with near perfect smoothness, both the server and the client. Nobody in the server complained about lag, so I'll assume there weren't any problems for other players. It was even better than hosting a listen server because my game crashed at some point... and since it was dedicated, the server was still running. Result: the other 5 players didn't get kicked out just because my game spazzed out.

Now all we need IMO is a decent, ingame interface for setting up a server. Fiddling with .ini files is quite a bother.
