Title says it all, I personally dislike the new version of TE because it feels to much like battlefield. In the original RO and DH you actually felt like you were fighting in a battle because your task was to either take this beach or take this bridge instead of just standing in a random cap zone like RO2.

So my question is will RS make me feel like i'm in middle of the battle for Peliliu while I try to take a beach head or as I do the massive rush across the air field? Or will I feel like i'm just standing in a cap zone and I don't know why I actually am trying to take this place...

Rising Storm, please don't disappoint me, make me feel like I have a real objective and don't let me feel like every game mode is TDM like in RO2.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong I love RO2 for what it is (and this isn't a complaint thread it's just a question) but i'm just hoping that RS can bring back the feeling that i'm actually in the middle of these battles.

I am not really sure what to make of the question.

Regarding what it feels like to be in a battle.. I guess you mean what it feels like to be in a film of a battle. Closest I have been to battle was either driving down a road about 50 yards away from an IED attack on some Russian soldiers in Volgograd and the feeling there was just "WTF?" or getting stomped by half-a-dozen skinheads in Tolworth, where the feeling was more like the HoS suppression effect x 10.

I guess what you are saying is that you want a more intense experience. I think you WILL find these on HoS too. Such experiences are, to a great extent, subjective.. I had an incredibly intense round of TE-Pavlov's on the Old Git's server where a bunch of clued up and non-griefy players enjoyed a gripping melee fight in the last few caps.

I am pretty sure you will find that, as you get familiar with maps, you will get that feeling. The conveyor tower in Elevator will become that bit more significant to you after a few plays, for example.

Thank you very much for your reply, i'll try to clear things up and be more specific (lengthy post ahead).

I'm referring to the epic set pieces that were in the original RO where you would have your entire team storming a beach or rushing across and open field under mg and mortar fire. You just don't get that in RO2 because of the level design and how TE works now. The old TE played more like rush does in battlefield and I loved that because you felt like you were progressing through the battlefield.

I guess what i'm asking is this. The original RO design was you progressed through the battlefield as you completed objectives. Say you land on peliliu and the first 2 objectives are points on the beach you have to capture. After you capture those points your spawn point would move up and you now spawn on the beach and the enemy no longer spawns close enough to the beach to be able to defend it.The next 2 objectives are 2 bunkers in the jungle/forest and are about 50 meters farther inland. You capture those bunkers then your spawn point moves up to those bunkers and the defending sides spawn point moves farther back to the airfield.

This would then be the defending sides last stand as you charge across the airfield under mg and mortar fire to take the final 2 objectives which could be a few arty bunkers are the end of the airfield. That is how a typical RO or DH map played out and it really was epic and gave you the feeling that you were in a movie.

RO2's TE mode on the other hand is more on the lines of battlefields conquest mode yet you can't take other objectives until you have taken the first 2 or 3. The objectives generally don't have names, there is no real motivation to take the objectives because like in the map Fallen Fighters you're fighting for the center of the map are there is no real "Defensive front line" like in RO. People are just running around mindlessly killing each other and that cinematic move feel is instantly gone for me.

So what i'm saying is, do y'all know if you are going with RO's style of TE where you feel like you're in a cinematic battle. Or RO2's Conquest version of of TE?

I do understand that it may be to early in development to answer but any reassurance or clarification will help.

Thanks again.

@Sicklylol: The map Fallen Fighters in RO2 is almost the same as the map Fallen Heroes in RO1... The maps have a slightly different layout and different weapon loadout and tanks and of course Fallen Fighter is more detailed, but that's it.

I'm not really seeing what you're talking about, OP? I will admit that sometimes the objectives seem a little arbitrary, but overall it pretty much works the same way as it did before with teams pushing back and forth.

Just to throw my coins in the arena -

Is it planned that Rising Storm will make use of the "lockdown" system? If so to what level will it be (it at all) differently handled than in HOS?

Cheers guys!

I really hope they don't or at least make lockdown really long.

I think the OP is talking about map design more than anything, where the objectives are placed in strategically important places. Fighting over the flower gardens in the center of the park in FF, while fun, is not really logical.

RO-Dofinovka was also a beach map...tho the Soviet Moryaki spawned on the beach.

DH-Dog_Green had US forces spawning in an LST and jumping onto Higgins Boats.
