Will RO2 follow the RO nature of DLC?

Having the Dev team add on elements to the game used to be the norm in PC gaming. The fact that Tripwire is going to continue the old trend is another reason this game could change the industry back to the way it should be. Constant improvements and fixes are a must from a good game company. I can't describe the anger from many gaming communities that were caused by Dev teams that have given no thought to a game after release.

An expansion is a great thing too, just as COD had COD:UO. An expansion should be a huge change not a few adjustments and maps.

Slightly off topic but, I would love to see a system similar to the map stamps in TF2 implemented in RO2. If you don't play TF2, they are small virtual stamps that you can pay for that correspond to a particular map that has been made by a member of the community. This way, if you end up playing a certain map a lot you can support the creator as much or as little as you like.

For me $15 seems reasonable for content of the size that RS seems to be.

Not necessarily, games like RO have always had free DLC updates. MMOs follow the same trend. What separates community is PAID DLC which is REQUIRED to stay with your friends. That not only separates communities, it ruins them.

Sorry, that is what I meant. Today, DLC to me implies something one must pay for.

DLC was not a commonly used acronym if at all before this practice emerged.

Today most people think...

update= fixes=free
DLC= new content=paid

This is why people say "FREE DLC"... this way everyone understands.

I think we may get both free AND pay-for DLC.

Like, you know, Killing Floor.

Free would be weapons, maps, vehicles and possibly game modes.

Pay for would be new additions to your hero's uniform, such as those Badges you get with buying RO2 while previoulsy owning RO1.
Additions to your uniform would without a doubt, NOT be restricted to just medals. *IF* this is something Tripwire is going to do, since I'm only theorizing based on Killing Floor, then you will likely be able to buy things such as a Greatcoat or helmet meshes, etc...
It would be interesting payable DLC to get different uniform options like, giving Germans choices of collar piping for your uniform to designate different specialties, a Feldgendarmerie gorget or unit emblems on helmets or cuffs for the units that fought in the battle. Even a Luftwaffe uniform might be warrented to represent gunners and personnel from 9. Flak Division, pressed into service as a grunt after the Soviets have the city encircled.

I still remember the days when Developers/Publishers would release map packs for free, it's completely wrong to think that they don't get anything out of it - what they get is people continuing to play their game and continuing to encourage their friends to play with them - it keeps the game fresh, gives the dev's something new to shout about, increases sales and decreases the likelihood of the gamer getting bored and playing another game.

The current DLC model every other publisher is adopting is frankly disgusting. I'm truly staggered at how successful CoDs map pack DLCs are, they are a complete rip-off.

The BF series was one of the first to try DLC with BF2s "Add-on's", and all it achieved was to split the community. I didn't buy any of them, because I was in a clan at the time and not all my members could afford it - we didn't want to split our own community,

Releasing proper expansions (like BC2s Vietnam) is definitely the best way to generate more revenue from the game, along with content updates for the original game for free. It keeps te original community playing together for longer and those who have the cash and/or inclination can go and buy the expansion packs as well if they so choose...

Tripwire's model is the best. :IS2:

Not at all, it makes perfect sense if the mod is top quality! Why shouldn't the guys who slave away at making mods that we all play get paid?

Sorry m8 but talent should be rewarded, and when that happens it's called success ( see TWI ), not selling out!

If the mod has the voice acting, HBO The Pacific team weapon audio etc. then it is going to be better than any mod will be able to ever do.

I don't mind some DLC, but it should at least be worth the money.
15 euros for 3/4 maps is just stealing.

However 15 euros for a nice expansion on the pacific with maps, weapons maybe even mechanics, is just awesome.

Tbh i wouldn't mind paying for expansion pack sized DLC such as Rising Storm but things like extra guns/map packs are probably a no :(

You must be new to RO...
This thread ISN'T ABOUT PAYING FOR DLC. It's about ASKING if their DLC (WHICH IS NOT A ****ING BAD THING) will remain free.

lol, but judging from OP it was suggesting that future bigger DLC such as rising storm might need contributions to the TW beer fund :p

Clearly you didn't read the OP...

With RO we never had to pay for DLC, we had tons and tons of free updates all the time (which was AMAZING by the way.)

Clearly stating, gasp, we never had to pay for the new content (DLC)

Will RO2 take on a Pay for DLC method, or will it stick to the RO1 method of seasonal updates for free?

Clearly asking, gasp, if we will ever have to purchase new content (DLC, NOT EXPANSIONS)

From my eye... It depends.

Does the developer release the mod tools? Or do they keep them locked down like Activision and bank on the fact that the mediocre maps they released with the game will bore you into giving them 15 bucks for 4 of them...again and again...

I do not mind supporting a company that supports its game- and takes a long view approach to the life of their game... not some paltry 10 month window.

Trip Wire does this... from the looks of it from my limited but pretty intense research on them and their games... It looks like they do it right... So they got my money for the pre-purchase..

Activision will get zero no matter what they do....and EA had better pump out something unbelivable (they wont) if they expect me to even look at them.

No Boys...

Looks like I have found a new home... Enjoy my presence.
