This is awesome. I'm glad the game can be fully enjoyed by all. Let's hope the player numbers stays high after free weekend.

You can't imagine how good it feels that people are having a great time. That is why we make games. :)

Well I'll tell you personally as well that I ****en love the game now, my favourite FPS used to be RO1 and now it's RO2 easily, I can't wait for the new weapons, tanks and half tracks now (and we all know your keeping Dr Guppy chained in the basement to make Leningrad)

lol..They only let Guppy out so he can slaughter us on the servers..lol

I see we topped out at 7,500 last nite on steam so we may not get the record but by hell this new version of the game deserves it..

I heard nothing but praise for the game from both new and old players alike on our TWB servers..It gives me great hope for the coming weeks that we could find ourselves with a much bigger and more diverse community.:D

It's good that players can enjoy the game to the fullest and bring some positivity here. Finally hard work of TWI is noted and they hear a good word from the players about it. Keep it up and Red Orchestra 2 will be the best World War 2 FPS game around.

I too hope that the number of players will remain high even after the Free Weekend. With the current price and given how well the game performs now I think many people will buy it. It's probably good to mention that we'll get even more content in the future and game still remains supported unlike some other titles I checked out.

Judging by the weekend's performance over the course of each day, i would say it's 50/50 that the game tops 10K today at about 8pm UK time.

If it does, I have to buy Ramm a drink at GamesComm (if he goes) - so stay away players...stay away - go enjoy the bugs in Iron Front: Liberation instead. ;)

Wow - 5,002 posts - I talk too much.

what time was that :p ?

Anyway with a bit of luck it might be possible to top the old record today. But I expect it to reach around 9k myself.
Kf peaked around 25k (IIRC) during its first free weekend, with about 4000 players playing afterwards. Using similar logic I expect RO2 to stabilize at around 1.8k players. Which is about a boost of 1000 players in the max player scenario of before the patch.

And likely an even bigger improvement in the min player amounts due to clientside hit detection (people will mind it less playing on high pinged servers causing people to quit less quickly). With low player amounts clientside hitdetection means a lot, as you don't need to have a local server to be able to play.

It was my mistake. I did read a post incorrectly and thought that the poster said that we had reached the 10K on steam. I mentioned that earlier today when I was on one of Mike's servers.

My guess - peak today at 8,300, peak on Monday about 2,000, stable at ca. 1500 after that for a while...

...until RS comes out :D

I think the main point is this weekend has established on a sound footing the game the old timers would have liked to have seen and raised a fair level of interest in the new guys.

TWI, and all those who have stuck with TWI on the basis of knowing that they generally do the right thing, can feel a certain sense of vindication.

On other forums there is now talk about map glitches and minor balance flaws with RO2 that need fixing, rather than downright attacks on poor performance etc. Those of us who know TWI, know that those won't be around for very long. Problems that come to light like this, cos of large player numbers, are nice problems for a developer to have.

Now we will also see custom maps coming out... it will take only 2 or 3 decent ports of RO:Ost maps to bring a lot of the old RO:Osters on board as well, once they have tweaked the server settings to their liking. Other, completely new maps will help to keep the community robust, too.

Of course, it would have been nice to see the whole world suddenly develop a passion for RO2 this weekend but, given the amount of mindspace Civ 5, Diablo 3, Day Z and IF:L are taking up, it is a pretty creditable performance and RO2 is back on the map.
