That looks awesome. I actually thought he had edited the video to offer the illusion the target icons were popping out of the screen.

Its a great concept and can only lead to more innovation. Nice find.

If youre talking about FPSs as we know them, I dont think they will look so great with this thing- every 2d texture that pretends to be 3d will stick out (e.g. rocky terrain, bushes, grass etc.)

It's more then trackIR, it's with 3D depth.
My trackIR set doesn't display depth the last time I used it ;)
This is the first step to my beloved holodeck.

no one asked if this IS trackIR, he asked if this wouldnt work with trackIR too.
And as was answered above, yeah, since its basically the same.

It ISN'T the same thing as TrackIR. Same principle (i.e using your head to view a game world)

TrackIR changes the direction in which you are looking from a fixed point, this has the ability to actually change the place in the gameworld you are viewing it from, and the direction in which you are looking.

No, TIR 4 has that too, version 3 aswell with an expansion, its fully 3D now, even tilt is supported.

Just search for "TrackIR 4" or "6 DOF" on Youtube, there's no shortage of vids where people are showing it in action.

EDIT: i found some vids for you, go take a peek:

damn this needs to be in a FPS, peeking over cover and leaning would be so much better.

Ah thanks Grobut, didn't know that.
Now my holodeck is even more real the next few years.

Yeah no kidding, im really dissapointed that more FPS titles havent picked this up (actually, i should say ANY fps title, none have 6 DOF support to my knowledge), i was really hoping we'd see this by now, but for the time beeing, my TIR4 is only really usefull with flight and racing sims.

But since FPS titles are now made for Xbox first and formost, it might not happen any time soon :(
