Well said :D

Yep, seconded - awesome post defektive :)

Splash Damage also learned this lesson the hard way, and the situation is almost identical - although the two games were being developed at the same time, so it couldn't be used as "an example that came first". For those who don't know, most SD followers were expecting another "Enemy Territory" game like Wolfenstein:ET or ET:QW. Unfortunately, SD opted to spread Brink over multiple platforms and at the same time (directly and indirectly) making the game more "accessible(tm)". Long story short - they ruined it from both perspectives, and almost nobody plays online - the game isn't quite 6 months old yet. I'd personally still be playing it despite it's shortcomings - but they made UI decisions that absolutely infuriate me on a PC title. Multiple actions on a single keybind - now where have I heard that before? :) Regardless of any "I like multi-binds/I hate multi-binds" argument, these things just don't work properly. Yes, I'm looking at you, Mr. Use Cover/Pick up Weapon/Bandage Wound/Interact with Gun Emplacement... you are NOT welcome in whatever guise you choose to don.

People are still playing Wolf:ET almost 10 years after release - in very limited numbers - and ET:QW 4 years after release, in not-quite-so-limited-but-still-not-many numbers :) We're probably talking 2 servers for ET, and maybe 5 full on a good day for ET:QW. Brink often has no online players at all, although a recent free Steam weekend boosted it a bit, temporarily.

It's a shame, because we probably should be thanking developers for doing something different instead of re-hashing the same old stuff - but in reality, many of us do actually want an evolution of a product, rather than a somewhat heavy change in direction or target audience.

EDIT: Just to say, this post doesn't mean I agree that RO2 is a "failure". I don't, but we've covered that plenty already, so that's all I'm saying :) heh

Repeated calls for "make it like RO1" will continue to be ignored because RO2 is not supposed to be a re-skinned RO1. I continually see people posting who do nothing but criticize the game that they say they no longer play..And will not play until their "obviously right" change to the game has been made.

Nobody was asking for a carbon copy of RO1. As long as you keep thinking that, it only shows that you haven't read into the actual complaints of the players. Its easy to shrug off problems when you group all issues under a reason nobody agrees with.

History has also proven...

Indeed history has proven that if people do not like a gameaAnd if people are angry about something that they will post in an angry matter, and post that they do not like it. That in general people reading those posts are less reluctant to buy a game. That is in a sense word of mouth advertising, which is one of the strongest forms of advertisements.

However as the internet is generally an unregulated medium, you cannot control the general posted opinions of people, and with that the information that other people see. So the only way to get positive word of mouth advertising, is to get a bigger (vocal) part of a community to like rather than dislike the game. If a bigger (vocal) part of the community dislikes the game over likes then negativity will of course show the undertone.

Heck the reviews of RO2 are generally bad, posts on RO2 on other forums are generally bad, and opinions for it in these forums are generally bad. If you want to see a change in that you wait till people that see potential but don't like the game drop off the radar, till only people that like it are left, or you look how you can get people to like the game.

The first step would be showing respect to a big part of the community, that at least tries to form an elaborate and detailed explanation of their personal reasons for disliking the game. And secondary try to find the core why people don't like it (hint its not because people want a carbon copy of RO1).

For me Ro2 didnt fail . I enjoy this game every day and i will not regret that i bought this game . Its dam awesome . It could need some more maps ( personal wish similar to red october ) but thats all i want :)

@Zetsumei

When complainers dislikes/Critize every new faeture of Ro2 that was not in Ro1 then im not sure if u are right . U maybe nto want exact clone but a gameplay that is similar to Ro1 and thats a fact . But thats ok u have those complainers on very game . Im used to it . I dont care and i hope Twi does the same . Its ok if u complain but spam same **** over and over gain is not right . If u dont like just dont play it . Wait for mods and so on but u cant expect from Twi to remove those features on which they worked very hard . I play also the game Men of war assault squad also alot of old Mow veterans disliked Mow As bcs of those new feautures and changes and a lil different change of gameplay . Mow was more tank combat and mowas is more combined arms . But mowas turned into a big sucess for the company .and so will Ro2 and copy sells speaks for themself .

To be fair, after release there were quite a few threads and posts saying all that was needed/wanted was RO1 with better graphics.

Neither faction has the monopoly on binary thinking. For the sake of argument: who is to say that if that had happened that RO2 wouldn't be in a healthier state right now. Anyway, that's neither the point nor the issue: it doesn't have to be one or the other, 0 XOR 1. With a discreet out-of-the-box Realism game mode all of this noise evaporates and the building of the next generation of hardcore WW2 gaming can really begin (w/ the SDK of course).

Alright whatever. I'll admit it.

I wanted a reskinned Ro1.

That being said, I didn't expect it at all. However, the game still rests in a awkward place that is halfway between k-k-k-k-killstreak arcadedom and Ostfront. Even the most minor of gameplay changes will greatly increase my enjoyment of the game. Even some obviously needed server options would greatly increase my enjoyment of the game. Even minor tweaks like native languages and different colored text would greatly increase my enjoyment of the game.

At this point I don't want a clone of Ro1 anymore because I've accepted that it won't happen. However, TWI has stated they are making changes and they have stated that they are listening to the forum.

So maybe we need a new thread that addresses the community desired changes that overlap in the proverbial Venn diagram. There must be SOME things that Cyper and Praxius would agree on, as well as a few less clearly defined issues that clearly do need to be looked at.

Did you just open Pandora's box?
that just fired several cylinders in my head when I read it lol

I find myself trying RO2 more frequently now because late night RO pop is close to nil. But I can't really stay on for more than a minute. I'm not even exaggerating.

Nah. Prax has given up the high ground so now it's just handbags at two paces. Nothing productive to be found there. ;)

On a serious note, someone has started a Realism wishlist thread over in Suggestions - and a dev even posted in there!

I'd have been perfectly happy with a reskinned and perfected RO. At least they would have had the basics done right, the bugs worked out, and developed a good core playerbase. Had they capitalized the 7 years and hundreds of thousands of man-hours that went into RO from devs and players they would have been able to now introduce extras and add-ons to an already good game.

I wasn't expecting a reskinned RO, but I expected a game in the same genre. RO2 doesn't feel like a tactical realism team based FPS. The guns feel too easy to use, too forgiving. The zoom makes shots too easy or encourages people to camp. I actually enjoy RO2 the most on Apartments just because I feel the gameplay is best suited to that type of map. Which is the opposite to how I played Ostfront

The zoom is bigger than any other FPS i've played. Theres no real skill in aiming or timing shots compared to Ostfront. I feel nothing when I get a kill, just kind of "meh". I don't feel immersed in a ww2 setting, like I spawn randomly near baddies then go kill. No build up to the action or feeling that I have to be cautious because I just respawn fast again by the action. I don't really care which team wins or loses

It is weird how the same exact game can have such a different experience on people. I find ro1 was exactly like the above, and ro2 gets me into ww2 for sure.

RO2 is a fail because it is not as good as RO1 in several aspects.

Actually, I agree with this. RO2 failed to hook me like RO:OST did. A couple of days ago I tried to play again after MORE than a month. After I finally found a server, I played a match and switched to Orcs Must Die.

I'm not saying it sucks. It didn't catch me like I hoped

It may very well not be to your preference. It's unfortunate, and maybe there will be something that comes along in the future that makes it more to your liking. But "RO2 isn't as good as RO1" is not a helpful post. It doesn't enlighten the devs to what you dislike about the game over their other title. It doesn't offer the community insight into what your expectations are or were. It just doesn't help, at all. So why waste the time to write it?

What caught you in ROOST, was there one particular feature that threw you off in RO2? Was there something present/not present that you feel was necessary to the experience?

EDIT: If you've posted those things before in another thread, that's cool. My issue isn't with your liking the game or not, it's with monster's (twice now) nonconstructive negativity. It brings everyone down, man.

In the immortal words of the Hiphopopotamus, "Be more constructive with your feedback, please!"

You can please some of the people all of the time or you can please all of the people some of the time.

(excuse my ignorance for I have not read much of the latest posts, I just wanted to post this. :D)
