Is there any particular reason there are no knives in this game? It's tad bit frustrating when I'm playing assault and get my SMG shot out of my hands leaving me with only a grenade.

There weren't any "knives" per say. The closest a regular soldier would have would be their seitengewehr, or bayonet, and you'd more likely see them using their entrenching tools.

I seem to be having this occur in compact spaces that have a wall in either direction. Not too many spots like that to be found, but it does happen from time to time.

I can understand that. But I'd accept anything for a weapon in that scenario.
Even a barehanded strike would work with sufficient blur. It seems a little odd that you can't at least try to attack someone unarmed.

Every now and then I can manage to circle the person who shot my weapon away and blow us both up depending on what they shot me with, but I can't help but feel I could survive if I got a good hit in close range.

I think a more important question is. Why do I drop my ammo pouch when my weapon is shot???

Why not use them?

I suppose you could, though remember spades were preferred since they didn't stick in bodies like bayonets do (think in the ribs). So you're saying have pulling your bayonet out of its frog (as long as it wasn't fixed to the rifle you just lost) as an option? That wouldn't be too crazy.

@Surkov

I get what you're saying, but until we get some sort of virtual/simulated reality so as to allow complex grappling with an enemy combatant in close quarters... melee systems are going to be awkward. Think about it. In RO you get into to circle strafe bayo/bash duels, in reality you smash your shoulder into the other guy's chest as hard as you can if both of you miss with your bayonet thrusts.

You can't get all that close in video gaming. Save for the Boxing and dedicated fight titles.
