And yeah the quick grenade totatly caught me off guard. i though pressing G switches to your grenade. Instead i ended up throwing a grenade straight in front of me at a wall lol

Hahaha, you too? I was in the middle of a room full of team mates when I figured it out. :(

I don't like the Killcam either. Last night there were numerous times where I died to a sniper only to have the killcam point him out to me by showing me the direction the kill came in. I was able to see him up in a window or wherever. So with my next life I could hunt him down and take him out. I have never been a fan of a Killcam in any FPS just because of this reason(had to stick with HC only servers and for BFBC2 I had to dig through those HC servers to find one without a killcam turned on *major pain at times*). I loved RO 1 and really enjoyed the fact that it didn't have one, ever. So yeah it's kind of disappointing to see it here now. I also preferred the old way of using grenades as well but the Killcam is the bigger issue in my opinion.

Yes, I take back what I previously said about Killcams. I did not realise that last night the only server I could join was a RELAXED Realism. This is why the Killcam. Have been in a Realism server since posting about the Killcams a few minutes back and I am LOVING it.

Realism servers are the only way to play!!

Sorry for my previous post, I'll hold my tongue till I play more next time. Jumped the gun a bit (no pun intended).

I could honestly care less about kill cams especially since realism gets rid of this.

This actually works quite well. I haven't spawned on my squad leader in an area I would consider "gamey" most of the time I spawn just 30-40 yards ahead of the spawn area. Not effecting gameplay drasticly to be compared to BC 2.

Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't have even bought this game if they announced it was going to be increased realism/objective based gameplay only. Running at MG's for the reason of "We need this random building" got old in 2008.

And to those complaining you had to hunt down a realism server, a realism server is a freaking skull in your server browser details. And if you notice most are skulls.

People can naturally focus on an object. I have a problem in ARMA where I am either looking at the iron sights way too far back, or I fell like I am cheating. This is a nice compromise IMO.

Yeah in real life you have that nasty toggle wheel to deal with. Then actually double checking your selection by clicking it. Its a shame they turned grenade throwing into the fast action it is.

Sorry but im loving this game and too many former RO players are acting like someone pissed on their rug. The new rug makes the room, get used to it.

OMG. All of this.

Some of the complaints have been off the charts bat**** crazy. I thought this was supposed to be a 'mature' community, but with some posts it's getting hard distinguishing them from some CoD post on the steam forums.

  • Kill cams. - If I wanted this, I'd go play Day of Defeat, or BC2. It has no place in a game like this.
  • Spawning on a squad leader. - BC2.
  • "Realism servers" - Shouldn't this be what the entire game is about? Again, feels like an appeal to the BC2 player base.
  • Copious amounts of zoom. - I shouldn't be able to zoom any further than what focusing on my sights would do, and yet I can zoom to sniper rifle like distances with a handgun in some maps.
  • Pressing "G" to quick throw a grenade. - :(
  • Minimap, and overall increase in hud elements. - While not all bad, I feel there's just a bit too much for my tastes.
.

Just like evolution of living beings, games can also come to a similar conclusion. Spawning on a squad leader? Just because someone did it first doesn't mean they invented it. It's a logical choice that I'm sure MOST people would of thought of. Same goes for kill cams.

The zoom is a little bothersome though.

only problem i have with spawning on the squad leader is, that i dont know where he is.

i click the squad leader option and look at the map but i cant discern his position. There are a million little flashing lights on the map so i cant really tell which is my squad leader that has been highlighted...

Because we thought it would be nice to improve on RO1, as RO1 was an improvement on the MOD :)

Imho Darkest Hour was the biggest improvement in all the RO franchise. I agree with the OP, but I really don't see the comparisons to other games like BF etc. I'm really looking forward to get to play on full realism servers. All slashers should remember that it's the community that made RO/DH/MN great games. With RO2 the Community has a very good potential for the next evolution. Just keep waiting. It's just a (very nice) beta.

Kill cam is lame. If you don't know where you were killed from, well try harder next time.

Do the server filters work correctly? I ticked it to show only hardcore realism servers and joined one from the list, but it still had kill cams on.

It seems that in the beta, as a standard, all servers are set to relaxed realism (or rather, realsim and relaxed realism have both the same settings but different icons).

Some servers I joined had no kill-cam, some had different kill-message settings (instant, delayed, no messages at all) while all had mini-map and pistols.
There seems to be a limitied way of tweaking possible as of yet.

...So then is the server browser just broken? I noticed all of those things even when I specifically joined a TWI realism server.

I think lots of ideas that are mentioned sound really good on paper, but don't help the actual gameplay as much as the systems that are currently in place.

The "killcam" (or more realistically, the "kill pointer") is one good example, It sounds bad on paper, but works well ingame, It really does help to detract from that "wtf stupid game" attitude and move it to a "haha, oh well" attitude as you can actually see where shots came from, and see your mistakes.

I like a lot of the additions, they really add to the enjoyment so far. Currently steam has clocked 6 hours of me playing RO2 Beta, and have enjoyed all of it (except the pesky crashes :p)

I completely agree with the OP. Things like the grenade throwing won't be different in realism servers I would think. Having to switch to the grenade (realistic speeds) and then having the choice to put it away rather than automatically throw it would be nicer. It gives more control to the player, and will reduce grenade spamming.

You actually can switch to grenades like in RO1. Just unbind the G button to oblivion.
