Why do we have a radar?

You know what I meant but didnt want to give me the answers I asked for. You're basically saying that you wont give me an answer because I dont call it by what its "officially" called

No, I'm saying that you question is opinionated and are not really interested in my answer. Really. ;)

But still: as far as i know we have no plans on replacing the minimap by a compass as found in RO1.

I think he's just making a distinction between a radar and a map, the former of which is used to (predominantly) detect enemy positions, and the latter of which is just an indication of allied objectives, which also happens to mark friendlies within your field of influence, so to speak.

It's a band-aid tool to help abridge the gap between reality and the limited interface (read: restricted fov and crippled sensory signals) of the monitor interface.

Indeed, the minimap's size is only about the size of what you could normally see around you when looking or turning your head.... it doesn't really give you much detail other than the general direction of where you're supposed to go and what's immediatly around you.

You'd normally have that same information in real life by relying on your ears, eyes and neck via turning your head.
