Why are pings so high?

I've to agree that something has happent to the ping since the last patch. Even if the scoreboard shows a decent ping there is quite some issues with delay/hitdetection compared to the last patch which worked a lot better for me. (Compared to the last patch i can't hit much targets right now)

Something in the last patch has caused this

Yes i understand some people are trying to run 64 man servers but havent the power to do it but this issue has nothing to do with that

We can easily run a 40 man server and before the patch it was great

After the patch all pings have doubled, i had to turn PB off as they were up even higher

This is no doubt some issue in the patch

I've also noticed when you console "Stat FPS" it brings up your FPS but there's also another number below that in miliseconds, which I assume is also the ping?

It's not. It's something to do with delay and frames, nothing with connection.

Pings are way higher since last patch, with or without PB enabled, there's clearly a netcode issue here.

On one server I used to get a stable 35 ping, and at most 65 with a full 64 players, after the patch I am at 116 to 136 ping on the same server, and close to 200 with 64 players.

tbh I never looked at the ping before last patch because games were allways laggy with more players (like 64) and pings didnt show up until last patch so we couldnt see pings anyways (except maybe with a console command).

Btw many players lag like hell even with 10 players on servers because they are joining servers which are too far away from them, ie: US guy joins a german server. So when players would join servers where they have low pings and would not join high-pinged servers, the gameplay would be much better for everyone on that server, but I think that most ppl just dont care about those things.

I am, by no means, an expert on anything computer related, so I may well be completely off on this. That said, I believe I read that the second stat shown in the Stat FS command display is the time it takes for a single frame to render. So, if you take one second, divide it by that second stat, you should arrive at the displayed FPS.

-EDIT- For example, a screenshot in another thread here (http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?p=861605#post861605) shows (with Stat FPS) 98.54 FPS and 10.15ms. so 1/.01015 = 98.522 or roughly the same as the reported FPS.

I have to agree here - pings do seem higher since the last update. I was quite happy a few days ago, but after a play session last night, it does seem worse on the whole.

Thats what I told on the privious page.
"Round-Trip delay time"

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping_delay" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping_delay

That means Ping-send/Ping-receive - Translate - Ping-send .....
That means furthermore: Better Hardware incl. GPU faster translate and responce. If the Masterserver is sending wrong players to the wrong servers than the server side itself is having a delay.

No, frame render time has nothing to do with network latency.
Stat fps shows frames per second and frame render time in milliseconds.
