I would play but the ****ty college internet network won't let me. But I'll be playing when I get home.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you are, I feel your pain, but last night I found this.

Looks promising, if I get it to work I'll send you a PM, if you want. RO downloaded to 93%, ATM.:D

Honestly I started to get a little fed up with things after I played Kriegstadt for a while.:p

Because, well, that map spawned some of the best spontaneous teamwork, everything else started to seem a bit weak. If I log on and get a good team where people will give good orders, listen to orders, and support the players around them, then I'll stay on and have a blast.

However recently it seems I've just been playing on the larger 50 player servers, and it's extremely frustrating when you try and play well and either nobody supports you, or people just play poorly in general.

Example: I walk into a room with a few teamates behind me. I go into a room and get shot. Normally the proper course of action for my teamates would be to hold back a second and try and reassess the way they enter, or throw a nade. Instead they just run in right after me hip-shooting thier bolt rifles before getting mowed down.

Stopped liking public RO play since the release of version 3.0 of the mod (new cap system ftl ;p), still play in clan based environment and thats the only reason why i didn't quit RO 2+ years earlier.

I still hope that somehow the next TWI game will be great for team play, something thats completely missing since 3.0 for me at least ;p.

Things like a bar showing how many people are in the cap zone, ability to see on the overhead map in what zone there are enemies in the cap zone. A lot of the open fields that were there in the mod being filled up with random broken vehicles making a lot of the combat more focused on short range. But above all more linearity often in the maps, so that basically a map can only be played in one way and in one cap zone at a time.

Although in the last 4 years i think already that i played ro it still stayed my nr1 game for a reason. I just hope that like with cod4 the next game by TWI will get something like a hardcore mode and more tweak ability for servers. And making more changes possibly optional (like auto dropping your main bolt rifle and getting a sniper when picking up nades because a ****ty sniper is nearby). Or servers being able to pick what cap system they want.

Freedom for server admins, and some out of the box ability for competitive play (for realism focused on the importance of life, or realism focussed on experiencing a battlefield, or just generic arcade play etc). One of the main things that most online games live on with is the hardcore community of which more often than not consist of groups of like minded individuals like units clans or gaming communities.

anyone who thinks RO is dying must not of been around between 1.3 (or was it 1.2?) release and 2.0 when there was literally a few dozen semi-active members with about 4 servers running. had to come to the forums to schedule games to get any worthwhile playtime.

Although I agree with your points, the logic behind these features is what makes up for them.

It's replacing the RL Squad Leader that you're supposed to be near to. You can't (or shouldn't) go lonewolf in most of the scenarios mapped so it was implemented to give you this idea of having the real time info you'd have if you was moving as a Squad. Not to mention that for most of the people having to do that Squad Leader giving real time info to everybody on the map in realtime over VOIP would be a very tedious and nearly impossible task.

Played it a lot when the commercial version came out, now haven't touched it for around 4 - 6 months. It's a shame that there's really not much teamplay on most public servers but I don't have the time nor will to get into a clan or something like that. Besides, the servers in which I hear active VOIP are in Russian or German. :p

Well as i said too i hate the new cap system too.

Simply if you need more people in a cap zone to cap someone can find out earlier that its capping. Maybe it can be handy to know there are people in the cap zone but games would be a lot more tense in clan environment at least if you didn't know there were enemies in the zone. Its a game you don't need a squad leader to tell you that enemies are capping a given zone or that there are people in the cap zone you need to have people that see them tell you that.

As with that i never experienced in a problem with the mod pre 3.0 atleast, with the release of 3.0 lots of maps got unbalanced and 1 person could just cap things all alone (think moscowhighway). Its a team game if some things a team must do get automatically done by the computer in the end all you have to do is just shoot targets and it goes from a team game to a death match =\

The main thing i'm about even if they are logic for some players new ones etc they just screw up the FUN of the game for others. I fell in love with ro because of the cap system and because you couldn't win by a single person that every person no matter how weak in the cap zone could win you the game. So the removing of that felt like a real deathblow to me.
