I've always been one to pick the Soviet team over the German team, often when I have the choice. I think it's mainly because I've always been particularly interested with the Soviet view of the war, and the Russian culture. On a more practical point, I am also more fond of Soviet weaponry, particularly the Mosin Nagant, in RO1.
Many times though, like most people, I just join whichever team needs players.

Myself, I go Soviets more often than not. RO is the only game I can play as Soviets, so I like the uniqueness of it.

I'm with Fuchs. Growing up reenacting and around the kits grew my interest. Realism in RO is also sublime... at least in the 305th! -rolls up sleeves-
Though for when I do go allied, I still carry my national bravado for ****s and giggles.

Whichever I feel like playing at that moment. It seems to be divided evenly in RO OST for me and I will assume the same for RO2.
Used to pick Axis more due to liking more the uniforms etc. (artistically at least), but lately I just auto-assign.
There are some maps however that I join a specific faction. One example is Germans in Pavlov's house, it usually ends up in a massacre, but it just feels awesome when accomplishing something so difficult (in a pub server nevertheless), like finally getting a small group inside the building while the rest try to cover them.

I feel 'closer' to the germans than to the russians, probably because i can speak german. I also hate to hear that all the germans were killers and nazis and things like that. There were many german soldiers who were just fighting for their country, and who did not want this stupid war.
Playing as Axis is a way to say : Not only the people who fought germany were heroes, but also many germans were !
Well, i guess it is a strange thinking only for a game.

If the German team is full.... I either wait around for it to open up or find another server.
Axis if it's possible to get an MG spot, russian if I feel like tanking. There's something special about the MG34/42 and T-34s.
I of course, will be on the Russian side. the 13th Rifle Gaurd, and the 10th NVD will rid the Fasict from the Mother Land, one street at a time, don't matter how many panzer divison's we have to go though to get there.

I tend to like the bolt actions of both teams, unlike those newbs who think that smg's are the be all weapon, the laser cannon k98k or mosin is the MANS gun.
