A very long time ago, I played a combat flight sim called IL2: Forgotten Battles. I didn't know how to fly on full realism, so when I entered a full real server by accident I asked, being in the red team, how to operate the aircraft or where I needed to go to in order to at least shoot at something, but they all told me to f* off and read myself up some dark forum which I've never heard of. Didn't gave up and though, the axis aircraft were easier to fly so I gave it a go but crashed on take-off. Suprisingly I was greeted by an pilot from an Axis Luftwaffe unit, who invited me to their Teamspeak server and guided me to the front and together I downed by first aircraft in a full real server. We talked for some time about Luftwaffe tactics and different aircraft types and I became interested in the Luftwaffe, that interest has now resulted in 3 large book shelves full of books, most of them in German since I can speak and read German.

But why Axis for an FPS? Not really a particular reason apart from the knowledge I already had about the Heer/SS and the experience I had with Axis units. There's no political reason behind it for me. What also played a part was one of my friends was already in the unit which I'm in now.

Sure team unbalance is not fair, but usually doesn't take long to solve itself.

Yeah I'm a little lost as to the term "clowns" some how equating with racism... at any rate always German unless there aren't any free spots or if I want to use the ptrd to make the German tankers mad.

Ya im feeling really behind the times when it comes to racial slurs too.

Clowns are definitely creepy though and I see them in a negative light so I get that part.

I'll be joining the Axis side most of the time, but won't be too picky on what weapon will use. Sometimes it's nice to pick enemy's weapon from the ground and use that against them.

I usually auto-assign but I slightly prefer the Soviet team due to the Mosin-Nagant.

I prefer the weapons, vehicles, uniforms, organization, culture and espirt de corps of the Germans to that of the Russians. I'll go Allied at times, but it'll definitely be anomalous. Remember, by a month in I'll have handled every single weapon in the game, either by spawning with it or having picked it up.

I understand the first three in terms of a video game, but how are you getting the latter three in game? Realism units?

I will say Axis mostly because of the K98 and I like their uniforms more. No I am not some nazi fan boy. I just like that rifle more than the mosin nagant, I dont care who made it, its great and accurate.

Correct.


For me at least, being part of a realism unit adds a whole new layer to the game's immersion. And that's on top of RO's already superior feel.

i'd say auto, as it was with Ro, but because of all the axis only players, like the guy above i guess, that normally ment russian.

This in turn made me a bit closer to the russians (which before hand i had no particular love for whatsoever) due in part to familiarity but also the feeling that you and your team were like a bunch of romantic rebellious underdogs, terrifying the organised, inflexable axis enthusiasts.

Added to this was the delight in finding that by knocking out large numbers of fine german tanks in your crude, 'inferior' russian armour you became an inadvertent troll.
