Crashfu, I think you're a little mixed up on what people had in mind.
Individual players disabling skins would not necessarily stop other people on the server from choosing the skin they want; it could simply display them as something else. That would be the real win-win. Everyone plays whatever skin they want, and only the skins that they want displayed get displayed, without the hassle of getting to know the exact tastes of every server admin on the browser. A little bonus, people running the game on toasters could load just one player model, if they wanted.

Was agreeing with Crashfu, but yeah this sounds better even maybe.
Also, big realisation, this is already very easy and possible to do with KF1 just by modding a bunch of ucl files (any chars that you don't want to see can be Masterson for example).
Maybe I should cook this up in a day then no-one will be able to complain about KF1 chars again. :D

Yet again a dumb suggestion. Servers shouldn't have the right to strip you of customizing freedom. Plain and simple.

Especially if you have paid DLC skins. Any customizing should be done client side. If someone doesn't want to see certain skins they can check them off in their own game, but nothing server side.

I would like to play with a heroin junkie player skin. But I can see how that might be unpopular.

"These skins shouldn't be in the game at all!" is a bit hard to misunderstand.

And what's the big difference between a server having specific skins disabled and a player disabling view of skins, anyways? One puts everyone in a unified visual setting and the other leads to some confusion over why Police-Officer-Generic-Model keeps talking like a robot or making christmas puns or somesuch. :p

But hey, if they did do player-model blocks on a client-side basis, I could just set every model except the one I'm using to display as chickensuits instead. Better friendly visibility that way, you know, eehehee. :D

Why should they not be in the game period just because you don't like them, especially when there's an easy fix that could be used client side? The problem with having server side blocking is that nobody would see them period, regardless of their stance on the matter. If you have paid DLC skins that would be counter productive. Why buy them if nobody else would see it? (Yes I realize not every server would do it, but still). Also, it's not hard at all to have a checkbox clientside that disables certain skins to the default skin AND voice. Like how we have the guy with the camo and gas mask that the game always defaults to now. Only just make that an option. Uncheck Robot, display default character and voice. Pretty simple.

By saying they should make it a server side block is actually taking away an option for people who have no problems with the skins, whereas making it client side is a win win for everybody. Not everyone has a problem with the skins, there's no reason at all to take away from their experience.

"I don't like it, therefore nobody else should have it" is a bad line of reasoning.

Client side option to disable player skins. Simple. If people find skins objectionable, then one tick box and they are gone.
AMEN dude. Excellent idea. I hope it is possible to pull off.

I just don't want to see certain skins - Steampunks, the Robot (!*^#$!@ AAaaaaaa... it just doesn't fit in KF1) or the Chickens.

I don't want to limit other users though, so bringing back their (silly) skins to defaults (with default voice lines) on my screen is a WIN/WIN. They got what they want - I don't have to see what I don't want to see.

Serverside? No. Clientside? Yes.

curtain rises

"So anyways guys, what do you think of my character model?"

"What, the really plain and uninteresting default one? "

"No! I bought that awesome new premium skin that just came out. The five dollar one, with the particle effects and all?"

"Oh. The rest of us thought that skin was silly so we all disabled it clientside. We just see you as the boring default character and have taken that to mean you're a newbie and or a cheapskate. That's why none of us have been watching your back this entire time."

"You disabled my- But most of YOU are wearing DLC skins!"

"Yeah. COOL ones."

"Well gee if I had known the people in this server were so opinionated about my favorite character model, by way of disabling it server-wide, I would have used a different one or played with a different group of people. Instead my five dollars feels completely wasted and I get to stand here looking like a newbie and or cheapskate."

I would troll people playing with the Harold Lott or Kevo the Chav skins so they think I'm some sort of retard and then carry the team as they would die wave after wave. Good times!

While I don't have a problem with ANY of the skins, it would be nice to see a more realistic variety.

Someone mentioned that the original packs of 4 not only fit the game's atmosphere, but also provided us with: unique, interesting and sometimes a little crazy character skins.

I think the London's Finest pack is a good example. Particularly Reverend Alberts and Captain Wiggins. They both fit the style but are pretty crazy and awesome. Especially the Reverend, who doesn't want to kill zombies as a priest? Its the perfect movie cliche, but it fits Killing Floor so well.

The original chicken suit actually fit in to a degree, the Chickenator is the exceptionally silly one.

Personally, I'd love the see the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm skins come back, I love WWII stuff.

Someone that would discriminate against the default skins would probably discriminate against them less than they would a skin that they dislike to the point of disabling. For example, I bet in KF1, Davins get treated better than Pyros.

I think anybody who would discriminate based on any skin period is pretty daft. All I care about is if that person knows what they are doing, which is pretty easy to figure out within a short time frame.

Plus, I've had KF revert to the default on me and didn't realize until I joined a game. And... what if someone genuinely likes the default?

Also not sure exactly what discriminating would even mean in this game. Quitting the game? Server admin banning you? Hurling insults?

All of those scenarios seem pretty implausible based on skin. Do people actually do that in Suicidal and HoE? (don't know, I mainly play Hard).

By discriminate against, I mostly mean being less helpful to them, not actively doing bad things to them. Sharing less money, watching their back less, etc.

Ah yeah, didn't think about that. Usually I don't care about their skin when I'm playing, though I'm not everyone. If I give someone money and they die repeatedly I stop giving money, but that's about it.

I would prefer Feasible survivors only. That means men and women of course, but really now a man in a chicken suit? A bit of quirkiness is part of the genera when it comes to zombies and such, but when everyone is running around as a giant chicken, it gets a bit silly.

If I may say so, Commando Chicken, Hazmat Dude, WW2 Reenactors, Skeleton Dude, Palace Guard, Kevvo the Chav, and Cpl. Rottenface (Thorne) are the "weird" ones that still felt like they really managed to fit in. I liked them. They were gloriously odd and silly without being on a Space Robot/Floating Grim Reaper level of silly.

See, i like that Hazmat suit guy (Dr. Gary Glover) . Actually he is my favorite next to the classic Mr. Foster. I think he fits in great. He's based on the Hazmat skin from the original Mod. Granted i do see why he doesn't fit in levels like London or offices, but he fits in levels like biotics lab. When it comes to "weird" skins, I'd consider the kerry fitspartick (The weird cult guy) and reggie the rocker a lot more out of place.

I like some silly characters like the chiken that has some humour. It's like the team is a ragtag group of demented guys that actually likes the apocalypse.

I dont like the silly characters that dont have something to laugh about when you think about them, like the steampunk characters (for me).
