This thing which was missing from RO I's Stug III F/8:

Agreed. But however in this case for RO2, the Stugs in Stalingrad were the types that didnt have a mounted MG34 behind the armor plate. They also had a flat roof without the commanders copula. Only the F/8s that were modified received the armorerd plate for the MG34. The armored plate MG34 didn't get fully implemented until the Ausf G. Without the doubt the latest StuGs that were in stalingrad was the Ausf F/8 without the armored plate. :)

STUG III was the most produced armor unit of the Thrid Reich, so it's presence is necessary!

The T-70 is confirmed along with the Panzer III J.
Panzer III J with L60 or L42? L60 would be more common in mid 1942.

September thru December 1942 for the Stug F/8 so unless Stalingrad took place in 1941 I don't see a problem. The MG was introduced with the Stug III E. The F/8 had this:

I see what youre saying, but I dont think youre understanding where im coming from. Yes starting with the Ausf E, a loose MG34 was carried inside. Yes, I understand the Stug III F/8 was produced from September to December 1942. Yes there is some chance that the Ausf F/8 was at Stalingrad.

Keep in mind the Ausf F/8 did not have the armorerd plate for the MG34 on the roof when the left the factory. The Ausf G had the armored plate for the MG34 when it left the factory and I doubt ANY Ausf Gs made it to Stalingrad. Any F/8 you see with a armored plate has been retrofitted/upgraded.

Only when the Ausf Gs were starting to be made in December 1942 did the existing Ausf F/8s get retrofitted with the amored shield found on the Ausf G. Very unlikely any Ausf F/8s at Stalingrad wouldve been retrofitted/upgraded with the armored plate in the middle of Winter, in December, in Stalingrad.

Any idea what the Soviets could have as a counterpart?

There was not Soviet counterpart for the Stug until the development of the Su-85 ... maybe during the early stages of the war the more similar to a soviet conterpart for the Stung in his selpropeled artillery role was the BT 7A that was cariying a 76 mm howitzer , a short barrel infantry gun , but instead carry big amounts of armor the BT7 tank was more a light and fast armored vehicle .

I think tripwire should implement PII and some BT , T-26 and OT models for RO2 , and also the BA-64 and some PSW grman vehicles .

I think that was the point I was trying to make. The F/8 in RO I had absolutely nothing. In RO II hopefully if an F/8 is put in it will, or at least realistically should, have an MG that is deployable on the (hatchless) roof.

Agreed! :) Found a really good reference pictures on the internet while looking at photos of Stug IIIs. The first picture is of a Stug III Ausf F that was upgraded with the later 7.5cm StuK 40 L/48 gun, the same gun found on the Ausf F/8. Note that the Stugs in the pics are "desert tan" color with a either a tan or panzer grey barrel.

I would imagine the Stugs with the grey barrels have had their gun replaced/upgraded. Tan is the correct correct as the majority of the Stug IIIs meant for service in Africa were diverted to the Eastern front and fought in Stalingrad. Picture was taken on October 16th 1942 in the southern sector of the Barrikady Gun Factory in Stalingrad.

The most important thing actually is to fix the damage model, after that, TWI yet announced the Pz III for Germans so i'm pretty sure that they'll add the Stug afterwards ;)

I'd like to see new content for RO2 go a bit beyond just Stalingrad. There have already been weapons included that may/may not have ever even seen the city. If TW focused less on Stalingrad itself and more on the eastern front as a whole there wouldn't be as much arguing over silly things like the MKb and they would also be able to include weapons/vehicles that actually were used on a large scale.

I would love to see the StuG III make an appearence in RO2 as well as new Soviet armor.

This might sound daft but we do we need a comparable self propelled gun/tank destroyer for each side? Wouldn't it be more interesting to have a more asymmetrical balance such as Stug 3 vs KV-1.

Granted the KV-1 was a heavy beast in the armour department, but i do recall it having a somewhat weak engine for its size/weight and turret traverse rate and agility was pretty slow too, no?

There would probably be a few balance concerns somewhere or other, but it just sounds more interesting to me. I guess the other one would be as mentioned having the T-70 as a counterpart instead. Doing the opposite of the KV-1 by having a high speed/ mobility advantage but weaker gun/armour.

I'm sure TWI will release several tanks over time though.

im for the Stug but it must suck to play because then you would need a very good driver and a commander with patience since the gun is not on a turret if you have a retarded driver you are even more screwed then on a tank with turret
