Indeed. Beta testers should at least commit 8 hours a day to testing...

Right... That is what paid beta testers do. Community betatesting does it for free, although you get less responses. You make up for that by increasing the number of testers dramatically, which you can do, provided you can support them and their need of bandwith.

I cannot test 8 hours a day, I got work to do. Still I would've liked to participate in the beta early and throw in my opinion, but that didn't happen. The early access beta is likely to go through all the stuff and prepare for a first patch, if the need arises. Or maybe a hotfix on release day.

Nah, that's what proper community beta testers do. Otherwise you just don't sign up for it. If you've got work to do, you cant beta test in this time. It's that simple. There are enough students or people working in shift system that can easily make up this time.

20 people can test quite alot.

Beta Testing, especially closed Beta's aren't just for getting to play the game early and report a bug when you stumble across it.

Yes 20 testers can do alot but they cannot stress a 64 player server easily. You fill a server you triple the chances of finding problems, including ones that appear when the server is being stressed.

Very true but it depends what they were testing, or indeed looking for. 20 players may have been more than enough, we just don't know, so speculating is a bit of a waste of time.

Beta testing follows a similar schedule and brief to that of the actual game development, but don't read too much into certain figures.

I do know what they were testing because it says in the steam group.

They were testing servers around the world, now how can you test how stable a server is when you only have 1/3 filled.

Right now it's to late already. 1 month time for pressing and labeling the DVDs

Which only install the game, then you have to log into steam, which will download a host of day 1 updates.

Silly man, thinking like hes in the 20th century.

Do you know exactly what the test entailed?

You don't necessarily need a server full of people to bench-test it.

I see your point, but without you knowing the full facts it's pretty redundant.

I'm not in a clan anymore since days of ETQW...but i'm a heavy FPS player....i can easy play/test for 8 hours per day if i want and at sundays go easely 10-14 hours....those numbers about testers....makes me...sad...and worried...

But i'm not in a clan....so....no beta tester...ooohhh dear...

I'm just happy they gave me a discount for owning the original. THAT is something you will NOT see from Dice, IW, Treyarch, or any other EA/ACTV developer.
Customer Loyalty? How about Developer Loyalty? Well Done TWI.
Salute!

I think TWI knows that preorder beta isn't going to turn up a host of bugs. They are using the masses as mindless fleshbags stressing servers and gathering system spec problems and data.

I hardly think they will find many low lying bugs, even if players did find them few would report.

I totally disagree. I've betatested games in my spare time with far less hours, that went weeks. As I said, if you get paid for it, 8 hours is ok. Otherwise you compensate by the amount of people from your community.
I assume that you have that much spare time on your hands, otherwise you wouldn't assume that many people have 8 hours or more free to do anything. Most peoples lifes are cut in 8 hours work, 8 hours sleep and the rest is spare time, going into eating, possibly family, etc.

I however agree that people should bring time, as much as they can spare for the game and also report on what they find and not just take it as an opportunity to play it for free.

For the game to release on time it'll have to go gold sometime next week at the latest, as such having a proper bug-testing beta then would be pointless. This is going to be one of those "betas" that's more of a demo than a proper beta, they might solve a few serer-side issues but nothing drastic.

For all those asking about when the beta access for pre-orders is going to start. It will happen before the release. That is all the info we're ready to give right now. Suffice it to say you'll get your hands on the game a lot sooner than everyone else :)

A lot sooner sounds like 1 week in advance.

3 weeks of beta would be awesome but ... that might be too much.
2 weeks of beta would be great, possible
I think we will have 1 week, I hope I am wrong.
Shy of 1 week might also be alright I guess.

I don't think A lot sooner is just a few days...
