When joining a game, why can you only enter an IP, and not a domain name?

I have a server I run on my machine for my friends. I have dynamic DNS so why can't they enter a favourite of blah.mydomain.com instead of my IP address at the time?

Surely the software could resolve the URL to an IP address?

I have had friends connect to my server via a domain name so it is possible. Check what IP you get for his domain by pinging the domain and then comparing it to what his real IP is.

I posted this in the bug forum already. Something seems up with how it handles DNS, sometimes... If I add the servers to my favorites with DNS they come up as "Unknown Server" -- i can double click and connect just fine. If I add the IP address they show up just fine.

So DNS works, there's just something up with it resolving the server for game info...

That's annoying! So you can't see if the server is up, without trying it!
